What was the final score tonight been trying to find it somewhere but no joy

Thanks Carys, ah well shame we didnt get a goal tonight but I suppose its all just about fitness in these matches.

and on the flip side we didn't concede. I lost my link at half time so only saw like 15 minutes of the 1st half. Wasn;t really enough to see how we were doing especially with all the adverts which kept interupting my link

Apparently we had the ball in the back of the net in this match, one of the Ameobi's not one 100% as I haven t seenthis nyself but the replays show it was a good goal and should of stood.

Also the match was apparently marred by racist chanst directed towards NUFC's black players including Tiote, Ba, Ameobi and Cisse. Again I dont know all the in's and out's so I'm not going to say too much but apparently the club are looking into taking further action as this sort of thing shoudln't happen in todays society whether it be fans (in this case Den haag but also national teams fans ie Poland etc) or players (Suarez and Terry spring to mind) it needs stamped out, I suppose really the players themselves need to make sure it stops otherwise why would the fans stop? And also the there need to be clear guidelines about what is acceptable and what isn't. I mean is the word "black" racist or not? I know I used it above but I really didn't mean it in a racist way and I don't think of it as a racist term. However the N word I do accept as racist and would not use it, however when you hear it in rap songs you then wonder is it acceptable or not and if not then surely they should not use it either.

Enough of that though I do not want to start a huge race debate - sorry for the rant.

I agree with you Andrew, the guidelines are not clear, and don't work across all the leagues in different countries, as if it happens in Spain or Italy then it gets brushed a-side. If it happens in Russia then people talk about here but that's it.

The governing body needs to stamp it out, and make the rules are the same in every country, especially as different countries play each other every year in friendlies, Europa league or the Champions League. If clubs or countries don't agree and enforce the rules and hand out the relevant punishments and make changes to their game then they should be expelled from playng matches against foreign teams

I am sure when there is a dip in the revenue of the champions league, then the relevant FA's or Governing bodies from Russia, Ukraine and Spain will stamp it out quickly

Context is important, which is why it's so difficult to sanction.

I remember whilst I was doing amateur theatre I was asked which of the cast was such-and-such a guy. Whilst the rest of the cast were umm-ing and ahh-ing about how to describe him, I said "He's the black guy through there" (He was the only member of the cast who fit this description). I got looks of shock from the rest of the cast for this, a few of disgust.
Perhaps others disagree - I personally believe it's no different to saying "He's the guy with the blonde hair" or "She's the only girl in the other room".

It's a touchy subject though. If you were to say "You are black" - that may offend someone who feels it's a means of identifying them by their skin colour, that it is meant to put them into a category of people who are judged by a stereotype. I wouldn't call that sentence on it's own racist though, just like I wouldn't expect to be called anti-Semitic for asking "Are you Jewish?", or xenophobic to describe someone as German / Italian / Irish / Scouse.

If the rest of the sentence is "Why? Because you are black" or "Don't touch me, black" (as were the alleged sentences in the Suarez trial) that comes across as racist - you're either bringing their skin colour up as an argument for different treatment, or simply ignoring polite conventions of addressing someone by their name. If it was just left as "Don't touch me", that would be fine - why add the extra word?

Likewise with the JT case - in my eyes given the evidence on hand is comparable to the Suarez case, I think the same punishment should apply for the FA to be consistent.
Rio as well, for the "Choc-Ice" comment towards Ashley Cole, suggesting that he isn't behaving "as someone of his ethnicity should". The difference is Rio has openly admitted to what he said, there is clear evidence of exactly what he said and Rio's defence, to me, is far weaker than Suarez's defence. If he gets away scot-free (whilst I wouldn't be surprised) I would see it as a mistake by the FA.

In short - black is not in itself racist. Using it in conjunction with a flurry of insults is. Using it in place of someone's name/title/etc. (Evra/mate/brother/Sir) is.

Well that's my €0.02 anyway (which may be worth even less by next week)
