Player Profile: NUFC Agree Vurnon Anita Fee

Newcastle United have finally agreed a fee with Ajax for midfielder Vurnon Anita. The club have been linked with the 23 year old throughout the summer but now seem to be close to completing a deal. The fee is rumoured to be around £6.2million (€8million) but terms are yet to be finalised with the player himself with wages being a potential stumbling block.
Earlier this month Ajax’s Sporting Director Marc Overmaars told De Telegraaf that the club had offered Anita a new contract. He said;
“We do not want to lose Vurnon. That's why we have made him an offer to sign with us until 2015 or 2016. The coaching staff has been very clear. Vurnon is very important for the team and we do not want to let him go.
With his new contract he would be one of the highest earners at Ajax and his services will be appreciated"
Whilst the midfielder himself had said that despite having signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2014, he would consider a move away. He said;
"I am going to seriously consider any interest and will discuss it with my parents. The Premier League is a top competition where I would want to play.
Ajax say they won't let me go, and I'm tied up here until 2014. It would be no punishment to stay, but you never know."
Anita is due to undergo a medical at the beginning of the week.
