Shola Injured, Marveaux Lost, Amalfitano Draughted In

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has been dropped from the bench for today's game after picking up a hamstring injury in the warm up session. Sylvain Marveaux was the intended replacement but he couldn't be located ahead of kick off and so Romain Amalfitano has been named.

Surely that's not going to go down well with the other players, not being available to be contacted for the opening game of the season?
Then again, I've not heard of Amalfitano on the bench yet...

Maybe it was a simply mix up in communication, as there seems to have been a change in the subs list before kick off. Though you know the media are going to focus on this and the Pardew sending off more than the match.

The funniest mix up in communication came when AP couldn't get the radio to work, and had to send runners.
Anybody know how long Shola is out, as we have the game on Thursday, and on all accounts it will be a weakened team playing

Amalfitano was definately on the bench, he was warming up during the match, it'll be interesting to see what is said about marveux!

I was going by radio commentary - oddly they didn't seem to mention Amalfitano but did talk about Shola warming up to come on for Tiote in the opening minutes.
Then again, they were talking@#$%&for most of the match so it wouldn't surprise me if they were mistaking Anita for Shola
Think I might look for alternative radio stations for ESPN games...

This is interesting-I'm a bit behind the cycle and hadn't heard this about Marveaux not being present. I (and other I've seen spculating online) assumed he was injured. If he wasn't: why was he not at the park if Amalfitano was?
NTS-you're right, they must have mixed them up. Which is funny-Shola's most of a full foot taller than Anita.

I'm assuming marveaux was at the ground originally for them to even mention him, what happened next is anyones guess, rumours on the internet say he left when he wasn't named as a sub!

Has anyone heard any more information about what has happened Marveaux? Has he been named in the squad to face Atromitos? I'm kinda worried about this he was looking so so good in pre season. I'm in Australia and i've been trying in vain to find some info on the situation. Any updates anyone?????

Can't seem to find an official squad list for tonight. Don't understand why that's so hard. All the secondary commentary puts Marveaux in the squad and likely starting. We'll see. We could use him.

he's playing, there was a family crisis which led to him leaving the ground on sunday and nothing sinister like has been reported on the internet! Think it was just a mix up between who knew he had left and who was doing the team sheet etc!
