Newcastle Win 2-1 (agg) Against Atromitos

Newcastle United have beaten Greek outfit Atromitos 1-0 on the night thanks to a goal from Haris Vuckic just 11 minutes after he was substituted onto the pitch with Ryan Taylor going off injured. The final score was 2-1 on aggregate. Newcastle have now qualified for the main competition and go into the draw which takes place tomorrow evening.

From the start of the game Newcastle looked strong, despite Alan Pardew insisting that the main competition this season is the Premier League. In the second half Atromitos started pushing towards goal with a couple of near misses.

Tim Krul was very lucky not to have seen a red card and penalty in the 44th minute, with the referee chosing to book Chumbinho instead.

In the 76th minute Beljic came on for Chumbinho and in the 86th minute he went down looking for a penalty, he was booked for diving and replays showed that this time the referee made the correct decision.

Alan Pardew will be concerned over injuries to both Ryan Taylor and James Perch, both of which forced substitutions, and whilst Newcastle are now officially in Europe the fixtures will now start piling up.

Pardew said in his post match interview, that he felt his side showed their naivety and noticably lacked experience but played really well and should have had a second goal.
