Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Everton v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
September 16 2012

Newcastle United travel to Goodison Park tomorrow evening for their game against Everton. Newcastle go into the game on the back of one win, one draw and one defeat from their three opening games of the season, whilst Everton have won two and lost one.

Manager Alan Pardew is without several first team players, with Tim Krul (elbow), Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring),  Danny Simpson (hamstring), James Perch (neck),  Haris Vuckic (groin), Cheik Tiote (calf) and Ryan Taylor (ACL knee) all sidelined.

Sammy Ameobi (hamstring) featured in the reserves game in midweek and played a solid 90minutes, whilst brother Shola (hamstring) is also back in training. Newcastle once again have the highest number of injured players in the Premier League.

Everton are without Darron Gibson (thigh) but  Steven Pienaar (hip) could return. Manager David Moyes also has new signing Bryan Oviedo unavailable as his visa has only just been finalised.

The Toffees will go into the game confident after winning last season’s fixtures 3-1 on the final day and having won their last five Premier League games at Goodison Park, whilst knowing that Newcastle have won just two in their last seven League games.

Newcastle United defender Davide Santon said ahead of the game;

"Last year we lost there, and so we know that Everton are a good team.

But we will go to Everton not for a draw, not for a loss, but for a win. We will be positive."

Fact: Everton have won 5 of their last 7 home games against Newcastle United.

Fact: Newcastle United have scored 999 goals in their Premier League history.

This is going to be a tough game, I think we should have plenty going forward as long as everyone is up for it, but I think we may be thin at the back. Hopefully Saylor will rally the back line.

Im going for a 2-2 draw and a point away to everton I would be pleased with, if we win I will be ecstatic.

Can't see us getting anything at goodison park to be honest.
However, i'm still going to the game and i will be cheering the lads on.

We really need to up our game if we want anything from this match.
With so many key players absent i'm not optimistic.

Pinning out hopes on Ben Arfa!

We're lacking a lot of first team players, including 4 defensive players (Simpson, Tiote, Colocinni, Ryan Taylor) and first choice keeper.
Pardew is suspended from the touchline.
Everton have started strongly.

Not too optimistic at the moment; only chance I can see is potentially outscoring them if their defence has an off-day.

As a Canadian I can say this with full bile "curse you Timmy Howard!" Nice run by Ben Arfa. Nice save by Howard.

Sorry I missed this one. My wifi went down grrrr

Seen the disallowed goal this morning. Glad we got that decision, but would be furious if that happened to us. (I know what a hypocrite)

They really need to get that goal line technology working.

It was from ESPN, and their knowledge of football is dubious at best so let's hope they were just ill-informed.
