Ba Agent Needs To See The Bigger Picture & Keep Quiet

Once again an agent has stepped out and made a huge public statement allegedly on behalf of their own player, which has left the management of a Premier League club less than impressed. This time Alex Gontran, employed by Demba Ba, has announced his clients dissatisfaction at being dropped to the bench for last night's game against Everton.

Presumably failing to take into consideration that Pardew has previously rested one of his strikers ahead of each of the sides previous European games, Gontran has said that Ba is confused by the management this year;

"Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Demba doesn't understand the management.

If he continues to be a substitute all season, we'll look at other solutions."

Referring to last season, after Papiss Cisse's arrival he added;

"How could you put your best striker with full confidence on the left wing? The choice to put Demba on the left last season was good for the club because Cisse scored 13 goals.

But there was a lack of recognition for Demba. It is more difficult to play well when you don't have the confidence of your staff.

Demba is happy at Newcastle. He is playing in the Premier League with lot of fellow French speakers and he loves the club's supporters.

He would like to start every game, but he respects the choice of the coach, even if he does not always understand or agree."

So far this season, Ba has only ONCE been left on the bench for a Premier League game, which happened to be last night against Everton (hardly setting a precendence). The Senegal striker has made 3 Premier League starts, and 1 Europa League start, where Pardew alternated between Ba and Cisse for each leg of the competition.

It would have come as no suprise to fans to have seen Ba started on Thursday evening against Maritimo in Portugal ahead of Cisse, however Gontran could have just jepardised those plans.

Newcastle United have remined silent on the situation, which again is not uncommon, with Pardew preferring to keep comments about disgruntled players/agents to a minimum.

Gontran needs to take a step back and realise that his client is at a club which works as a team and that means accepting a break once in a while ahead of additional competitions, to allow other team players a rest. Whilst Ba needs to understand that the fans were pleased to see him stay at the club after a summer of uncertainty, but that unless he reigns his agent, who is unsettling the team with his comments, in then the situation could soon change.

Hopefully come Thursday we will see Ba playing with confidence and scoring more goals. It would be a shame if this public outburst from Gontran so early into the season affected him on the pitch.
