Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Reading v Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United travel to the Madejski Stadium tomorrow afternoon, where Reading will be seeking their first win of the season. Newcastle go into the game having been defeated in the Capitol One Cup by Manchester United in midweek, but confident in the knowledge that both Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba have found the back of the net in the last 7 days.
Pardew welcomed back Cheik Tiote and Fabricio Coloccini this week but only Tiote is likely to start tomorrow’s match, as Coloccini (hamstring) has reportedly suffered a set-back in his recovery. Jonas Gutierrez, Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba, who all missed out against Manchester United are also all expected to be recalled.
One player who won’t be recalled is Yohan Cabaye who will miss the game due to problems with his teeth, though Pardew doesn’t expect him to be sidelined for too long.
Tim Krul (elbow) and Danny Simpson (hamstring) have both returned to training, but this games comes too soon and they too will miss out.
Reading manager Brian McDermott will see that Jimmy Kebe (hamstring) is assessed ahead of the game, despite featuring in midweek, whilst Chris Gunter, Garath McCleary and Danny Guthrie who were all rested in midweek are all expected to return.
As well as currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League, Reading also sit at the bottom of the injury league with just two players struggling with fitness. Goalkeeper Adam Federici (knee) is a doubt, but Jason Roberts (calf) could play some part in the game.
Alan Pardew will have high hopes against his former side Reading, who have conceded many and score few so far this season, but will have seen their achievement in midweek against QPR in the Capitol One Cup and know that their confidence will have been boosted.
Fact: Reading have conceded less fouls that any other team so far this season.
Fact: Of 12 meetings between the two sides, Newcastle have won 8, Reading have won 3 and there have been 1 draw.
