Europa Lge - Team Lineups/Match Thread: Newcastle v Bordeaux
By Tyne-Talk October 4 2012
Newcastle United start this evening's Europa League game against Bordeaux with a strong side. Pardew has named Rob Elliot in goal, with Shane Ferguson and Gabriel Obertan also starting, whilst Yohan Cabaye is back after missing out at the weekend with teeth problems. Hatem Ben Afra and Demba Ba both start on the bench, whilst Cisse is partnered upfront by Shola Ameobi.
Pleased to get that one out of the way without any major injuries hopefully. I was there and it was nice to be back in Europe, even though the atmos wasnt amazing.
Cabaye ran the show and there were some nice performances. Bigi and Ferguson are really impressing me at the moment. What a steal Bigi is for 1m. What I like best about him is the fact he makes the simple pass and knows when to release.....something Tiote could do with learning at times. Could be really special if he can continue to improve.
Personally I think Obertan copes better in Europe than the Premier League. Whether this is because the teams played so far aren't used to pace or experience with his previous clubs, I don't think it's a bad thing to have someone like him around.
I know he's been getting a fair amount of flak for his poor end-product and occasional lapse in concentration, but I still think he offers something to the squad.
Even if it is as a rotation option.

I agree NTS and the thing is if the fans get on his back will it really make the situation any better ? I doubt it.
He does have some good qualitys and when switched on seems decent enough, I suppose he just hasn't settled to the EPL, don't forget he is still only 23/24 so still has some time on his side and offers a good squad player with some experiance who can play a few roles. I mean really where is his best position ?
Out of interest it wouldn't have shown it on TV but yet again we had a streaker on the pitch off the top of my head thats 4 this season in our matches, it took the stewards an age to even get on the pitch let alone get him off, what is it with them all atm ? It really pee's me off when they disrupt the game like that.
