Europa League: FT Newcastle 3- 0 Bordeaux

Newcastle United have beaten Bordeaux 3-0 at St James' Park this evening in the Europa League. Goals from Shola Ameobi, Papiss Cisse and an own goal by Bordeaux's Henrique accompanied by assists from Gabriel Obertan and Shane Ferguson have given the side a much better goal difference going into the rest of their league games.

Whilst commentators referred to Newcastle as playing like they were on the training pitch for much of the 2nd half as they comfortably passed the ball around, the team picked up 3 yellow cards throughout the game, with Cheik Tiote, Vernon Anita and James Perch all getting booked.

Bordeaux, who finished fifth in the French League last season, failed to inspire on their travels boosting the home teams confidence.

Gabriel Obertan showed a noticable improvement on the pitch, whilst Henrique for Bordeaux had a shocking game for the majority of the 90 minutes.

Manager Alan Pardew said after the game that he was happy with his side's verve and said that in terms of him as a manager it was a "perfect night".

Newcastle picked up injuries to Rob Elliot and a minor concern for Yohan Cabaye during the game. Whilst Cabaye is expected to be back at the weekend, Elliot's injury, coupled with Tim Krul's injury, leaves Steve Harper as a lone keeper.
