The Confederation of African Football have announced Senegal’s disqualification from the Africa Cup of Nations, after their fans rioted in the stands during the weekend’s game against the Ivory Coast. The game was abandoned after  fire crackers and missiles were thrown onto the pitch when the Ivory Coast were 2-0  (6-2agg) up.

The Confederation have awarded the win to the Ivory Coast which means that they qualify for the Cup.

A CAF statement read;

''CAF decided to officially confirm the result of the match as 2-0 in favour of Ivory Coast ... and to consider Senegal the loser of the said match and eliminated from the competition without prejudice to any other sanctions that may be imposed by CAF disciplinary board.”

Newcastle will now be without Cheik Tiote for the Cup period but manager Alan Pardew will be pleased to see strike duo Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba remain in the UK.
