Newcastle United defender Davide Santon has quashed rumours that he has his eye on a move away from the Premier League. Last summer Santon was linked to Lazio, Fiorentina and AC Milan, with reports suggesting a move in the winter transfer window was on the cards. The 21 year old’s manager Claudio Vigorelli has now insisted that his player is happy in the North East.
Vigorelli told Tutto Mercato;
“Davide will not leave England, he feels well and his coach is happy because he is putting on good performances.”
Santon, whose is contracted to Newcastle until 2016, said ahead of today’s Wear-Tyne derby;
"I didn't play in the first game last season (against Sunderland) when Newcastle won 1-0, but I played in the second one.
It was a fantastic experience. The fans were crazy and I really enjoyed the game. I remember the managers being crazy, too, and Sunderland having two players sent off.
But I think it's normal, because the Milan derby was similar. The difference is that here the stadium is a bit smaller, but the fans are more aggressive than in Milan.
Here, the rivalry is more intense, more crazy. I was even a little bit scared in the first half, but I really enjoyed it."
