Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Southampton v Newcastle United
By Tyne-Talk
November 24 2012
Newcastle United travel down south for tomorrow’s game against Southampton, the first game between the two sides since 2006 and manager Alan Pardew has few players to choose from with players picking up injuries left right and centre. Newcastle go into the game on the back of one win, three draws and two defeats from their last six games in all competitions, whilst Southampton host on the back of one win, one draw and four defeats from their last six.
Newcastle have been on a bad run of results lately having not won any of their last 5 games, but Southampton, who have started the season badly, with just 8 points from a possible 36 go into the game on the back of a win against QPR.
Pardew is without Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Yohan Cabaye (groin), Shola Ameobi (groin), Ryan Taylor (knee), Dan Gosling (knee), Haris Vuckic (knee) and Gabriel Obertan (toe). Papiss Cisse (back), Jonas Gutierrez (knee) and James Perch (thigh) all face late fitness tests
In addition to the ever growing injury list, Captain Fabricio Coloccini is suspended for the game.
Southampton manage Nigel Adkins has just two injuries to contend with, Frazer Richardson (thigh) and Richard Chaplow (knock) are the only players unavailable for the game.
For Pardew, this game is his first return to St Mary’s since being succeeded by Adkins 27 months ago. There has been a lot of media attention around comments Pardew made today about his departure from the Club and as with many managers who return to former clubs, he may not receive the warmest welcome.
Fact: Newcastle United are unbeaten in their last 8 games against Southampton (all competitions).
Fact: Southampton have had 10 different goal scorers so far this season. Newcastle have 4.
Fact: If Newcastle lose against Southampton it will be their third consecutive League defeat. The last time the club had such a poor string of consecutive results was in 2008 when they lost 4 games in a row.

However, its going to p1ss it down with rain and I am going to get soaked in the stands so expecting plenty of goals to make it worth the trip.
I think I'll just play black ops 2 instead.
Even with all the lag and BS that goes on in call of duty it is a lot less stressful than watching the Toon at the moment.

Hmmm! Not sure I like that, I think Ferguson's got more to offer.
Go on Sammy make me eat my words.

What a joke we are at the moment.
We've gone from a top team to dog shite in one season.
The players look like they don't even want to be there.
Time for another clear out and get players in who actually want to play for the club instead of trying to put themselves in the shop window then not caring because they didn't get a big move.
What a surprise. Not!

Staylor off Perch on.
You have to feel sorry for Carys watching that pitiful performance in torrential rain.
Love to be a fly on the wall in that dressing room right now.
Anyone want to buy a season ticket?
And either pardew is too clueless to see the tactics are just not working or the squads not big enough cant decide which at the min probably combination of both .
Any other top 6 side would see Sammy isn't ready and fergie needs to be brought in gradually not chucked in at the deep end when team is on a bad run
Whats the point in having 2 International strikers who cant put an attempt in let alone a goal.
We were all over the place - we seemed to have no structure. Santon was pushing forward whilst Gutierrez was sitting back at times, Sammy Ameobi couldn't decide if he was on the left of the right before swapping completely.
Several times Gutierrez passed the ball to a space he expected Sameobi to run into but it didn't happen.
Cisse seems to find the half way line a comfortable place to stop for a rest.
But what concerns me the most is that we are repeatedly playing the ball back.
We all know that we panic under pressure so why increase that pressure by playing pass infront of Krul.
Such a frustrating performance to watch. Perhaps putting Nile Ranger (who was warming up on and off all game) would have given it a bit more flare. Least he would be up for the game unlike some of our regulars.
Plus points>? Simpson worked hard today. He was noticable at all times, whilst others could have been off the field for all they did.

Thinking of canceling my ticket ! Where are all the "Ashley & llambias are doing a great job " army now this season has shown how woefully inept our squad is for depth and changing playing style .

Yes Tom, Hopefully you can f00k off and Jack your ticket in. The season has been poor but Ive been through worse. If Im honest, I could do with jacking my ticket in but its far more to do with fans, no doubt like yourself, than the team. The amount of fans who boo after a game or moan rather than support the team does my head in.
Maybe this poor start is a good thing in a weird way. Might force Ash to try that little harder to bring some experience in. I wont hold my breath though.
You don't know me or what kind of fan I am . I travel almost 500m every home game to visit family and watch the game . I have never once booed the team from the field (although I have understood others frustration in doing so) nor have I ever walked out before the final whistle . Something I feel is in a minority (more than half the crowd had gone when ba scored v Swansea this season alone as an example ) I paid for my ticket and am entitled to my opinion just as you are
And here's another of my opinions - it's people like you with your numb minded personal attacks on people due to your lack of ability to argue your case rationally who have destroyed this site . It's no wonder there are only a handful of people left who post on here and now there's one less - complete and utter moron

Can the people moaning about not strengthening the squad please tell me wo we should have bought? You can't blame MA and DL for not going out and wasting money if their targets weren't available!
The players are playing without confidence and the manager is working without confidence that is obvious, will booing them help this?
Sammy needs to be dropped and brought in more gradually, his whole gameplan is to get the ball and run to the byline and then worry about what he's going to do next, Ferguson is a much better option he's got the pace to run past players unlike Sammy who tries to use his size to run through them, ferguson will run with the ball and then look for the pass or the cross into the box and he has the ability to put a quality cross which our strikers are desperate for!
Quote:They were definately available, Debuchy had pratically gone out and bought his own shirt. We decided to play hard ball over him and Douglas and lost the gamble for the sake of a million or two.mentalman

As for Douglas he wanted to move to Newcastle to use them as a stepping stone to a bigger club, he needed to stay in holland for a work permit, his club didn't want to sell and more or less said they'd rather let him leave for free at the end of his contract unless they received a very large offer, again is he worth that sort of money? if he is why did nobody else buy him?
We could have bought mariappa who the majority of people on here wanted and is having a great season at Reading!
Again many of us wanted Maiga we could have gone for him but he's hardly setting the premier league alight at WHU!
Isn't that the time the crowd should get behind them and try to lift their game.
Booing your own team must give the opponents a lift.
I agree with mentalman that Ferguson is a better option than Sammy.
Ba and Cisse shouldn't be played together in my opinion as they are too similar and if a different type of striker is avaiable in January then we should try and buy him.
There is no need for Booing the players/manager at all.
Strengthening our team ahead of a european campaign would have helped (it would help any small squad), if not only to allow for us to field a completely different team should we choose to BUT there is no doubt our performances are down to our injured key players (and we have SO many - we always seem to top the injury list)
I like Sammy but he isn't experienced enough and he panics. I said to my dad at the game yesterday if we can keep Ferguson he will come good for us. I think he could be excellent in time.

Biffins . Why don't you go @#$%& yourself sideways with a rusty razor blade !

No problem mate, people on here know what I am like and it is not as you describe. You talk about being rational.....like wanting to jack in your season ticket because we lose three games in a row. Grow up man.
Mental, totally agree and its not just one thing as to why we have stuttered. Some players havnt turned up, injuries, not strengthening enough.
This Ba clause really has me puzzled. Where do we go with it. Im not saying he is as it could be the papers/agents, but I dont want this hanging over us for another couple of tranfer windows. He is scoring loads but I cant warm to him that much. His body language in the second half of last season was telling. We shall see.
