Newcastle United travel to the Britannia Stadium tomorrow evening for their midweek game against Stoke City. Pardew’s players go into the game on the back of three consecutive league defeats and three draws from the Premier League and Europa League. Stoke host of the back of two wins, two draws and two defeats from their last six games.
Alan Pardew stood by as his side conceded two goals on Sunday afternoon in a 2-0 defeat against Southampton, on his first return to St Mary’s since leaving his former club. But the problems only pile up as he confirmed today that Yohan Cabaye (groin) and Steven Taylor (hamstring) will be sidelined for up to 8 weeks with injuries.
Newcastle are also without Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Shola Ameobi (groin), Ryan Taylor (knee), Dan Gosling (knee), Haris Vuckic (knee) and Gabriel Obertan (toe).
The only good news for Newcastle this week is that captain Fabricio Coloccini will return from suspension
Stoke City will be without Michael Owen (hamstring) who has only just returned to training and Andy Wilkinson (back), whilst Rory Delap (hernia) is not expected to return until mid-December.
The home side will be full of confidence, having not lost a game at home since February and only conceding one goal at the ground all season. Newcastle on the other hand will need to come out fighting or risk dropping further down the table.
Fact: Stoke are unbeaten at The Britannia Stadium in 13 league games.
Fact: Newcastle are 12 points and 10 places worse off than this time last season.
Fact: Papiss Cisse has only scored 1 goal in 13 games and that wasn’t intentional as it deflected off his back.
