AFCON: Pardew Says Ameobi Stays: NFF Will Fight Decision

Alan Pardew has put a stop to Shola Ameobi going to the African Cup of Nations and insisted that the Nigerian National coach Stephen Keshi knows why. However, Ameobi, who made himself available for Nigeria and has made one International apearance, has been named in the provisional 32 man squad for the competition and the Nigeria Football Federation have made it clear that if he is called up - then he goes.

Pardew said;

"Shola won't be going. The national team manager knows the reasons, which I am keeping to myself."

However, NFF spokesperson Ademola Olajire said of the situation;

“Keshi never told us that Ameobi will not be available for the Cup of Nations when he was included in the 32-man provisional list. The Cup of Nations is a competition sanctioned by Fifa and I am sure Newcastle knows that. We will do all within our power to secure the release of all our players for the competition."

Somehow I think if selected he will travel.

Don't see what grounds Pardew can argue it on without causing problems.
