Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Arsenal v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
December 28 2012

Newcastle United travel to The Emirates tomorrow for the evening kick off against Arsenal. After the 4-3 thriller at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, Alan Pardew’s team should be full of confidence, however, just two wins and 4 defeats from their last six games has left them in 15th in the Premier League. Arsenal on the other hand go into the game in 7th place with three wins, two draws and one defeat from their last six in all competitions.

Alan Pardew is without Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Dan Gosling (knee), Yohan Cabaye (groin), Ryan Taylor (knee), Haris Vuckic (knee) and Steven Taylor (hamstring).  Jonas Gutierrez (knee) and Vernon Anita (ankle) also join the injury list, whilst Mike Williamson is suspended. Cheik Tiote returns from his match ban for picking up five yellow cards.

Arsene Wenger’s side go into the game having had Boxing Day off after a tube strike meant fans wouldn’t be able to travel to the game, well rested and with very few injuries, they will be expecting 3 points.

Only Andre Santos (stomach), Abou Diaby (thigh) and Lukasz Fabianski (foot) are unavailable. Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosicky are both fit after illness.

Fact: This is the 3rd time the two sides have met on this date. Arsenal won both of the last two games in 1984 and 2004.

Fact: Newcastle are currently on their best goal scoring run of the season, having scored in each of their last 6 games.

While Newcastle will be knackered after that performance against Man U, and with no depth in the squad a win seems a step to far.

I'll be happy with a draw.

C'mon Toon do us proud. (Sm128)

This is a joke!

Conceded 11 goals in 3 days. That is disgraceful. Pardew needs to seriously have a word.

That was tough to watch at the end.We did not deserve that carnage but we must try to regroup and move on.Feeling as shell shocked as I have done in all my years as a Newcastle supporter. Nothing more to say as its one of the most strange games I have ever seen.

Shell shocked is right. I never want to see a game like that again.

The sooner we get some of the injured back playing the better.

C'mon Mike get your wallet out, it's obvious we need more depth to our squad.
