Odemwingie Linked With Move To Newcastle

Newcastle United have been linked with a £3million move for West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie,  as a replacement for Demba Ba should he leave in this January transfer window. The 31 year old has started 12 games this season, been a substitute in 5 more and scored 4 goals, whilst claiming 3 assists.

It is likely he would have a full season under his belt, if not for a 3 match ban courtesy of the first red card of his League career.

During his career at West Brom which started in the 2010/11 season, he has scored 29 goals and assisted in 12 more. Odemwingie signed a 2 year deal in 2010, with the option of a 3rd year at the end. Instead, the club offered him a new 3 year deal last summer which lasts until 2014.

Odemwingie has also made 47 appearances for Nigeria and scored 9 goals whilst on International duty.

Not a bad player and I would have him at Newcastle.

However, we have also been linked with Shane Long, who is 6 years younger, scored 5 goals this season and has 4 assists.

Also not going to be disappearing in January every year for African Cup of Nations, as he plays for Ireland.

If we literally had the two to choose from I would probably favour Shane Long as is younger and we could get more years from him. Wouldn't be the first time we have been linked with him either.

I'm with you on Shane Long, but as much as I hear the rumours I can't see it happening.

Lets just Carr can unearth another gem.

What has happened to Remy? Is that deal no longer viable? We certainly need at least one striker and a couple of defenders at least.

didn't the club release a statement stating a transfer policy where they wouldn't sign players over a certain age, i think at 31 odemwingie is over our maximum age limit!
