Cabaye Defends Pardew

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has defended manager Alan Pardew after he was booed for substituting the 26 year old off in favour of Gael Bigirimana. Pardew acknowledged after the game that Cabaye was struggling with the groin injury which he had just come back from, but that he has got the substitution of Sylvain Marveaux wrong, thinking that Cabaye would play the full 90 minutes. Since the 2-1 defeat to Reading the odds on Pardew being the next Premier League manager to be sacked have shortened.

Cabaye told The Journal;

"I asked to come off because my groin became tight. I didn't want to take any  risks on my first start for so long - I have come back much earlier than was  planned. The pitch was very heavy. I think it was the right decision for me.

The fans were very angry, but they did not realise I needed to come off.  They should not blame the manager for that. It was my decision. I was not fit  enough to finish the game. That was why I came off. It is unfair to blame the  manager when it was me who made the decision. I am not worried now because I  came off. I think I will be all right.

In this league, you can't  afford to relax for one moment. It only takes a few seconds to win a game.  Reading turned it around. What happened, we couldn't foresee, and we are all  bitterly disappointed."

It doesn't sound like Pardew's lost the dressing room to me.

Good onyer Cabaye. (Sm128)

Is that a statement just to try and keep us sweet I hope not and if I'm honest Pardew said that was the case all along!
