Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that the signing of Moussa Sissoko was due to take place in the summer, when the 23 year olds contract expired. Pardew admitted that he knew he wanted him at the club after he first went to watch him play for Toulouse 14months ago. The midfielder, who joined Newcastle for £2.2million has made an instant impact at the club, scoring two goals in his home debut at St James Park.
He told the BBC;
“Sissoko, I don’t really need to say anything about him I think his performance said it all."
“You bring players to the club, I remember watching him for Toulouse and I came away that night, this was, must be 14 months ago or whatever and I thought he’s definitely the one for us if we can get him and we have watched him and looked at him for a long time."
"We had set our sights on him early, which was a good thing and we have accelerated it because he was going to come in the summer, hopefully, but we have had to do it now and my God his paying us back handsomely.”
