Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Swansea City v Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United travel to Swansea City this afternoon on the back of four wins, one defeat and one draw in their last six games, whilst Swansea play on the back of a Capitol One Cup Final victory having won two, lost two and drawn two of their last six.
Swansea may have a trophy to show for their successful season, but Newcastle have a much improved side to when the two teams last met back in November at St James’ Park, where the Swans took all three points and will be looking to prove a point today at the Liberty Stadium.
Newcastle are expected to be without Captain Fabricio Coloccini (back), who will be replaced by Mapou Yanga-Mbwia, whilst it has been confirmed that Tim Krul could miss up to five games and will be replaced once again by Rob Elliot who had a fine Premier League debut against Southampton last week.
Hatem Ben Arfa has travelled with the side, but manager Alan Pardew has criticised the Frenchman’s fitness this week and he is unlikely to feature heavily.
Long term injuries to Steve Harper (knee), Ryan Taylor (knee) and Haris Vuckic (knee) will not disrupt Pardew’s plans.
Swansea manager Michael Laudrup is expected to start Ki Sung-Yueng in midfield, whilst Michel Vorm (flu) is expected to return in goal.
Fact: No team has played more players (29) in the Premier League this season than Newcastle United.
Fact: Newcastle have only lost two of their last eight games in all competitions.
Fact: Swansea’s Michu has scored 15 Premier League goals this season, 19 in all competitions.

It doesn't sound as if Haten Ben Arfa has been working as hard as he should have been to regain his fitness. Dock the lazy sod's wages till he does the work.

we've been the better team for a lot of the match, and had we brought some fresh legs on would probably be winning!
Swansea are using their fresh players to get back into the match and are now going to win it!

Many episodes of poor defending by Newcastle. Tiote has given the ball away endless times. Mentalman is right about Cabaye.
Alan Pardew bawled them out early in the first half for there laziness.
I've never been confident of our team getting a goal.

Frustrating to watch--until the last 5 minutes we were on track for our goal. That said, Cisse missed plenty of chances...he must be suffering from Torres disorder. Gouffran missed that beautiful sitter, and what was Pardew thinking of putting Marv and Shola on in the dying minutes of the game?

oh well Pardew cost us the points today, Swansea were struggling with the pace we were attacking so why not make the changes when we are on top rather than at the end when we were behind!
players did well although Tiote and Cabaye were poor, Saylor had a good game!
The question has to be asked why the team that will be playing on thursday has just played 90mins when you have players of Anita and marveux quality on the bench

Well that would explain why they only came on at the end to waste some time!
Surely if you were going to play the reserves against Anzhi we'd have been aswell doing that in the last round and getting knocked out if we aren't taking it seriously?

Interesting I thought we did enough to win the game and were the better side. Still that's football one messy goal and it's all over!

thing is though we should have won that match we were in total control from around 70mins but jonas eased off and cabaye wasn't producing anything, had we made the changes at this point we would have probably left with 3points!
We had the players on the bench that could have made the difference and Pardew wouldn't use them, starts to make you think that carys is right and we are going to play the reserves on Thursday!

Newcastle had 37% possession. People say possession doesn't matter, but you can't score if you haven't got the ball.

they had more possession but the majority of it was in their half and statistics show their defenders played more passes than any other area of their team, possession is good but only in the right places otherwise you have to rely on the opposition not scoring and getting a lucky goal
