Newcastle United host Liverpool FC tomorrow evening in what will be the second most talked about game of the weekend (the first being Arsenal v Manchester United and the RVP saga). Liverpool travel to St James’ Park in their first game since Luis Suarez was handed a 10 game ban by the FA for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic on the back of three consecutive draws, two wins and one defeat from their last six games in all competitions. Newcastle go into the game on the back of two draws, three defeats and one win from their last six.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will be hoping to capitalise on Suarez’s absence and lift his team further away from the bottom three. Despite being six points clear, Newcastle are currently in 16th place in the Premier League with Aston Villa just three points behind them, so whilst relegation is unlikely (though not guaranteed) an embarrassing 17th place finish is a real possibility.
Liverpool on the other hand are pushing for European football with 6th place in their sights, but unlikely with Everton five points clear of their rivals.
Newcastle go into the game without Sylvain Marveaux (groin), Davide Santon (hamstring), Tim Krul (shoulder) and Ryan Taylor (ACL). Cheik Tiote (hamstring) could return, and Papiss Cisse (ribs) is expected to play despite receiving treatment in France earlier this week.
Fabricio Coloccini is back in training but not likely to be fit to play this weekend.
Brendan Rogers may be forced to include Fabio Borini (shoulder) in his squad, whilst Daniel Sturridge will start.
Martin Kelly (ACL) and Joe Allen (shoulder) are out for the rest of the season whilst Raheem Sterling (thigh) is not expected to be fit in time.
Suarez’s absence should have handed the advantage to Newcastle in this game, however, Newcastle have repeatedly failed to grab any advantage this season and repeatedly failed to sustain their momentum for a full 90 minutes in the Premier League.
The game is a 5.30pm KO and the stadium is sold out.
Pardew discussed the club’s league position ahead of the game. He said;
"There's only one way to deal with it, and that's through performances. Me talking means nothing.
This is about the club. This isn't about me. It isn't about any one person. We need three points to keep Newcastle United as a Premier League team next season. Then all the plans we have in place can move forward.
If we got a great result on Saturday, I wouldn't put it past us to win two more games. But if we lose, then we lose that little bit of momentum we gained at West Brom and suddenly you're fighting again to try to get those three points. It's a different pressure.
I haven't got to the end of this season yet and you've got to get to the end to understand exactly what has gone on.
When you throw a blanket across the division, there's not a lot of difference between clubs that have been described as having great seasons and us.
It's very difficult to assess at the moment with all the problems we've had. That should be done at the end of the year."
Whilst Brendan Rogers has backed Sturridge to fill the void left by Suarez;
"He's only been here a short time but in the times he has trained and then gone out and played he's shown he is one of the top strikers in the country.
We're hoping we can maintain that training mentality. When he takes that into the games, he's a real threat for us.He's fitted into the football club really well. He missed a bit of training last week but if we can keep him fit and keep him out on the training field, he's got the potential to be a top European striker.
That's hopefully something he can fulfil here at the club."
On moving forward he added;
"It's the team's responsibility. I said to the players the other day, whatever happens with Luis there's also a plan going forward for the team - we have to keep progressing.
That's about the team showing their solidarity on the field and making sure that one player doesn't feel that burden.
It's really about the team's responsibility now to push on."
Fact: Newcastle have taken just 4 points from their last 5 League games.
Fact: Only Reading and Aston Villa have conceded more than Newcastle's 60 goals.
Fact: Last Sunday, Luis Suarez became the first Liverpool player to score 30 goals in a season in all competitions since Fernando Torres in 2007-08. (Such a shame he can’t add to the tally against Newcastle).

The commentators have already written us off ... 
also how come every throw in atm always seems to go backwards to our keeper, no matter how far up the pitch we are. The whole shape of the team is not right, the formation 4-3-3 is right but the way each player is used in the system is wrong.

yep I mean we play one up fornt by himself where is the pace at in our midfield to support cisse, on the bench our quickest two players, come on I defend Pardew/ashley the club time after time but this is just becoming silly now.

totally agree annie, elliot was awful today and not one of their goals was unstoppable i wonder if the club will rethink their recent announcement that they were so happy with Elliot's progress that they weren't going to replace Harper!

Its the players who need a good kick up the @#$%&, but also pardew needs to stop playing players in their wrong positions/roles and realize this system does not work with incorrect players in the main positions.
Sissoko is not an out and out attacking midfielder whether it be through the middle or out on the wing cutting in. Jonas does nothing when being played as the left side of an attacking three. Cabaye just looks lost his head looks gone imo, our defense looks shot too pieces and Elliot is not in sparkling form either.

I agree Andrew the players need to put a helluva lot more effort in. And yes mental they need to be played in their most effective positions.

I don't want to see Pardew gone because I would like to see long term management, however I don't think he will stay.
I hope I am wrong. But I don't think another manager coming in will help in the long term because I don't see who Mike Ashley would bring in as a replacement, we just have no confidence or desire.

I want long term management and stability also but not at any cost . Is it too much to want a manager who knows what positions his players are suited to and a manager who can teach them to pass to someone in a matching shirt ? Or how about not crossing the ball into the box if there is no teammates in there ! And also the exact opposite if there's people in the box get it in there don't play it back to your back up keeper who was probably some dodgy deal from the days when you managed his previous club ! Sorry for the rant but I'm really angry right now I pay hard earned cash for my season ticket and have to travel 4 hours up then 4 hours home every other week to watch a team go belly up like that then to hear excuses about being tired sticks in the throat when I have to work stupid hours of hard graft something none of them have ever seen just to be able to pay and go see the so called professionals I am within my rights to expect to at least see some fight and dedication , and the manager picks the side and instructs them in what way to attack a game and if a player doesn't perform it's his job to drop him or kick his @#$%& . Something pardew seems unable or willing to do

Luckily I was at an amusement park riding roller coasters and having a great time instead of watching this disgraceful display. The roller coasters didn't get me but I was sick to my stomach when I checked my phone and saw the score.
What a disgrace, this team has given up and lost the plot, we should have known after the Sunderland debacle but I held out hope they'd finish strong. Now I just hope we manage to survive some how.

Like others have said, I want the stability of a long term manager, but the players really look like they have stopped playing for Pardew.
There are too many issues with Pardew but square pegs in round holes spring to mind. What is this business with Sissoko playing as an attacking mid. He scored a couple early on but anyone can see he is no AM. In turn this hinders Cabaye, who just looks so off form. Sissoko could still make his runs but just from deeper. He has a monster engine but also looks lost. I dont know if Pardew looked at how well Fellani has done for Everton in that position, but he is just not the same type/class of player.
Tiote has been shockinig this season with form and injuries, but he still gets straight back in. Perch, I like him as a 100% player, but not when you have players on the bench.
I feel for Anita, what must he think when he sees the class of player keeping him out. Dont get me wrong, he had a tough start to his career here, but when we had the injuries before xmas he was probably our only player who could put his foot on the ball. Now, he cant get a sniff when we really are devoid of ideas.

Thanks Jake at least I can still smile at your post.
When we first got Demba Ba and Cisse + 1 or or 2 French players I was really happy and could see the difference they made. Now I'm convinced we have too many French players when what we really need are some established Premier league players.
Players who would have really understood our rivalry with Sunderland and our history with Liverpool.
Players who would be desperate to make the first team. Don't get me wrong I'm not exonerating Pardew but I'm sick of watching players like Hatem Ben Arfa doing the odd magic trick but more often like yesterday putting in a poor performance and keep giving the ball away.
I really dislike Andy Carroll but on balance I'd have him back in a heartbeat because he would run his socks off for the fans and the team and he'd be so proud to be called a Newcastle player.

Just totally embarrassing we are going to have to rely on other clubs losing or dropping points like Wigan did yesterday. In my opinion we are currently the worst club in the league. We need a change of manager at the end of this season otherwise there will be no end to this debacle.
Blame lack of investment,Europe etc the buck for a result like that yesterday ultimately stops with the manager.We were clueless to concede 6 at home is rediculous. Where are the points going to come from the rest of this season I don't see it. Paying good money to watch that yesterday is a joke.I feel sorry for us as fans.

What was even more sorry to see was what was left of the home crowd sarcastically cheering every time we managed to complete a pass I had to laugh or I would of ended up crying ! Absolute joke

Pardew leaving is the last thing we need, previous to this season he's had a good season and a half if we are fighting relegation again at the end of next season then it'll be the right time for people to start discussing him leaving!
The club as a whole has lurched from one incident to another this season none of them being Pardew's fault, we didn't invest in the summer when everyone knew we needed to, we've struggled with injuries before christmas, our best striker leaves, our captain announces he wants to leave, we invest in a number of good players but don't replace Ba and then after all of that we end up with another injury crisis, how many managers could have turned this into a successful season i.e getting to the quarter final of a european competition?
People are criticising Pardew for not dropping players due to poor performance, he's never had the luxury of being able to do this, Mapou Yanga Mbiwa looks like he could do with a rest over the last 2/3 matches but what is better him not playing to his full potential or dropping him to bring Williamson back into the team?
Again there is the criticism of playing players out of position, the main 2 players played out of position are sissoko and Jonas, the only alternative to playing sissoko as a number 10 is playing Shola up front, jonas has been playing in as part of the front 3 and it is obvious this isn't his position but over than the never fit HBA the only other option is Obertan who quite rightly hasn't even been near the bench recently!
As for Anita he struggled when he first came had a good spell while cabaye was injured and is now struggling again, there have been too many games recently where they have passed him by and he's not been involved in anything!
As for missing english players who apparently understand derbies better than foreigners i can honestly say i dont understand the magnitude of the manchester derby or any other derby in england or any other countries but all footballers experience these derbies and will be aware of what it means to the fans whether its a derby in england or one in the french league.
As for missing Nolan and Barton they were both in the team that took us down last time and i dont see anything different from them that would mean we would stay up with them in the team this time round!
I'm not trying to take all of the blame away from pardew he is the manager after all but he is doing what he can with what he has at his disposal, i can only think of 1 or 2 managers who could do any better at the club at the minute,
The owner has to take a massive amount of the blame for not investing in the summer, had we bought the number of players in the summer that we did in january and the number we bought in the summer in january then this season would have been totally different.
The players need to take a long hard look at themselves too, i know it has been a long hard season with a lot of travelling etc and they haven'y had much chance to rest but they need to make more of an effort in the final few games, Pardew can only do so much before kick off and at half time its up to the players to make it work on the pitch we need someone to control the players on the pitch and this is the job of the captain, our captain doesn't do this and i've previously questioned not only Cabaye's suitability as captain but colo's also.
There's a definate loss of confidence throughout the club again and it seems as if the players are limping along desperate to get to the end of the season and start again next season.
The club as a whole has lurched from one incident to another this season none of them being Pardew's fault, we didn't invest in the summer when everyone knew we needed to, we've struggled with injuries before christmas, our best striker leaves, our captain announces he wants to leave, we invest in a number of good players but don't replace Ba and then after all of that we end up with another injury crisis, how many managers could have turned this into a successful season i.e getting to the quarter final of a european competition?

It's the managers job to rotate the players and pick a team mixed with youth/reserve players if necessary to prevent tired players , its a managers job to pick players to play in the positions they are suited to - and adapting the formation and or game plan to make the most of the players he has at his disposal regardless of their skill it's called man management something he clearly lacks !
Management is easy when your winning its how they cope with defeats and injury crisis that defines how good a manager truly is an he's failed miserably
I agree there is no one out there at the moment but that doesn't mean an inept manager should keep his job just for this and besides the same was said when Chris h was sacked but a replacement was found

we've used 32 players over this season so far the next nearest to this is 23 so its fair to say he's used the reserves and youngsters but when the reserves and youngsters get injured or need a rest who do you use then?
We haven't got a big squad and Pardew cant be blamed for that, teams with similar problems also have to play players out of position, its not a case of we haven't got an out and out left back so we'll not bother playing with one the manager needs to find someone to play there and its his decision to either play an experienced first teamer out of position of pluck an inexperienced 17 year old lad out of the reserves and throw them in at the deep end, i know which one i would chose!
At this stage in the season he has performed better than 4 managers who have for the majority of the season had their first team squad to work with, they haven't had a long run in a european competition!

Your entitled to your opinion as I am of mine that your wrong ! It's not the defeats but the manner in which they have come he has not got what it takes to change things around if we have to play players out of position for whatever reason fair enough but adapt the game plan to suit and help out the players in an awkward situation ! The past 6-7 games its been clear that no two players have the same idea going forward with the ball and no one knows when to make a run or pass , this should be dealt with in training and I'm not going to even start with the defence . Its the same formation and same clueless tactics every game Before Christmas he was blaming the form on the crowd for booing when they were booing him not the team , he's out of ideas and should either get help or go maybe bring in an attacking coach to work on going forward so he can concentrate on organising the defence which has become a joke since losing colo

We have lost the plot this season and a lot of this is down to the manager. Sure he's had problems but how does that explain the total collapse of the team in our last two home games.
We have won most of our games by the odd goal this season and look toothless up top. The defence is all over the place and our midfield can keep the ball but do very little with it. So we stay up by the skin of our teeth keep Pardew in charge and look forward to more of the same next season.Also I bet some of the players will be sold in the summer.Personally I think it is time for a change. You want stability but at what expense watching the same old dross next year.I love the club but I want to see us progress,that will not happen with Pardew in my humble opinion.

Pardew has already come out and said he wants another coach!
Why dont we look forward to more of last season next season, or let me guess it was a total fluke that Pardew got us up to 5th and into europe!
There are 11 proffesional footballers on the field at a time playing for NUFC, if Pardew is devoid of ideas and not got a clue why aren't the players trying something different on the pitch or on the training ground!

That's the problem they all seem to be trying to play their own way , its down to pardew to set out ways to attack different teams depending on their weakness and practice those untill their all on the same page when going forward something that is clearly not happening as time an again we see passes going to no body and crosses to empty boxes . No players making runs to help out whoever is in possession
Not sure exactly how long but It's been over 12 months and almost 300 attempts since we last scored from a corner that's just a complete embarresment from a manager who claims to play attacking football !
The one thing I will concede is pardew had our defence looking fairly solid untill the loss of colo and krul , Elliot doesn't communicate to his defence the way krul or even Harper could and also hasnt looked impressive so why continue to play him ? And colo is just an unfortunate situation but these things happen

113 corners since we have scored, its still not good but not as bad as 300, saying that this time next season it'll probably be 300!
The problems with the club run deeper than Pardew and to just replace him is papering over the cracks, Pardew got us through similar problems last season although our lofty league position meant it didn't seem so bad!

Not sure where you got 113 from but with the amount of games we've played since oct 11 I'd say its s bit higher than that , I read somewhere it was 260 odd corners hence why I said almost 300 . Cabayes corners aren't great but surely if we're an attacking team as pardew claims we would of scored one by now even by pure luck one would have dropped in ! imo it's a large reason were in this mess as we can't finish games off there seems to be no plan going forward whatsoever either in open play or set pieces no two players know what the other is going to do and it needs sorting fast

That's claiming the Ba goal V City was from a corner, which it wasn't. The proper figure is 282 corners since October 2011. Which makes you wonder what in God's name we do in training?!?
