Match Preview/Stats/Thread: QPR v Newcastle United

By Tyne-Talk
May 11 2013

Newcastle United are in London for the second weekend running, list time to face relegated Queens Park Rangers. They go into the game on the back of three draws, two defeats and one win from their last six games in all competitions, whilst QPR host on the back of four defeats and two draws.

Newcastle have no choice but to win this game to secure a Premier League place next season playing for the draw is not a luxury that Pardew can take with Arsenal on the final day of the season. Earlier this week fans suffered watching games featuring Sunderland and Wigan, begging results to go in Newcastle’s favour to make their Premier League survival a little easier, but the reality is that they shouldn’t be relying on other teams to lose, to ensure they stay up. QPR have nothing left to lose ahead of this game and whilst there have been reports this week that their players are too busy trying to find other clubs, the reality is that often teams play well under these circumstances.

Newcastle go into the game with both Sylvain Marveaux (groin) and Davide Santon (hamstring) facing late fitness tests. Tim Krul (shoulder) and Ryan Taylor (ACL) are long term injuries, whilst Massadio Haidara (hamstring) is also unavailable.

Earlier this week news broke that Shola Ameobi (foot) and Moussa Sissoko (ankle) will both miss the final two games through injury, bringing the number of 1st team players unavailable for selection to six.

Mathieu Debuchy returns from suspension to link up with Fabricio Coloccini who returned last week from a back injury, bringing some much needed experience to the side.

Harry Redknapp, who has vowed to stay with QPR in the Championship next season, is without Shaun Wright-Phillips (ankle) and Richard Johnson (knee) who have both undergone surgery, whilst Chris Samba (knee) is also unavailable.

Jose Bosingwa who was seen laughing as he left the pitch on the day relegation was confirmed for QPR, faces a late fitness test having experienced a muscle injury, whilst goalkeeper Julio Cesar (back) is also due to be assessed ahead of the game. However, Robert Green is expected to deputise in goal.

In addition to injuries, Harry will have to decide whether to play Stephane Mbia after the former Marseille player allegedly asked Joey Barton on twitter if they could swap back to their original clubs – which despite claiming to have been hacked, QPR have fined him for.

Fact: Newcastle have scored just 8 goals in their last 13 games.

Fact: QPR have failed to score in 7 of their last 9 home games.

Fact: Newcastle have gone 262 minutes without a Premier League goal – QPR have gone 365 minutes without a Premier League goal.

I watched the last 30 minutes or so Man City were awful and didn't deserve to win.
Bl00dy typical I was desperate for Man City to win.

Hopefully Wigan will be worn out for their next match.

If we could actually attack a game (pardew claims he plays attacking football) that would of been over in the first half ! But we're safe now. That's all that matters , hopefully we can get a better manager , or someone to work above pardew over the summer to sort this mess out

Elliot getting sent of is a good thing in my opinion, Harper will now play his last game for the club at SJP and we can give him a proper send off at the end of the match rather than him just slipping away with us trying to remember the last time he played!

Did QPR buy Townsend or was he on loan?

We are as Wigan play villa last game so one of them will lose or even a draw meaning wigans maximum points leaves villa on 40 an were safe an if villa win were safe

We are safe.. Wigan needs atleast 5 points to catch us, and Villa needs 1. They are playing each other in the last game, so we are safe..

we are i believe, we are a point ahead of villa and 6 ahead of wigan so for wigan to get above us they have to win both of their games which will leave villa a point behind us

I thought the same thing but with Wigan playing Villa in the last match we are. If Villa lose and Wigan wins out Villa finishes with 40 and if Wigan lose either match they're done and if Wigan win Tuesday and draw Villa they still can't pass us.

We have 41 pts. Wigan has 35 with 2 games left, and Aston Villa has 40 with 1 game left. If Wigan wins against Arsenal, then they will have 38 pts going into their last game with Aston Villa. Therefore, Wigan must win in order to survive, while Aston Villa has to win or tie to stay. We are safe.

Whilst I think Wigan should go down as they escape it far to often I have friends who support villa and constantly remind me of the fact we were relegated at villa park , and would love to be able to shut them up if Wigan staying up another year is the price for that then so be it , come on Wigan !

The mackems are the team relying on Arsenal beating Wigan then they will be safe.

We are definitely safe on 41 points but lets go out with a bang next week and beat Arsenal that would probably stop them finishing in the top four. Now that would be funny.

While I am happy for our stay, I fear for what will happen this summer. Something doesn't sit well with me and I think we will be not only just as unproductive as last summer, but we will be losing a few crucial players along the way.

I hope I'm proven wrong!

So happy with this result just goes to show we can actually win when we need to. Though why they felt the need to leave it so late we will never know.

Our league position is flattering but will take it (Sm60)
