In a bizarre twist of fate, Steve Harper looks set to play the final game of the season for Newcastle United and the final game of his Newcastle career. The 38 year old would never have expected to be first choice for the game against Arsenal next weekend, but after watching Rob Elliot get sent off for a 2nd bookable offence today he will now step up to what will surely be a brilliant farewell from the fans at St James Park.
Harper who has seen keeper after keeper become first choice ahead of him, has been a loyal servant to the club he joined as a youngster and has spent the last 19 years at.
Whilst plans would have been underway to celebrate his achievements at the club, there can be nothing better for him that playing to a sold out St James' Park during his final farewell.
