Kinnear Adamant Cabaye Is Staying - Bookies Suspend Betting

Whilst betting has been suspended on Yohan Cabaye leaving Newcastle United in favour of AS Monaco, new Director of Football Joe Kinnear has been insisting that the 27 year old will be staying at the club because they have no intention of selling their best players. Cabaye has been hotly tipped with a move to Monaco and his comments last week when asked about speculation linking him to Manchester United could be true fuelled the situation.

He said;

“For the moment I am at Newcastle. You never know what happens in football.”

Yes, for sure, (playing for Man United) it could be an interesting challenge but like I said for the moment, there is nothing concrete and I am still at Newcastle.”

However, Cabaye was only answering the questions put to him by L’Equipe. He didn’t release a statement saying he wanted to leave the club and Newcastle Utd moved to deny rumours that the midfielder had undergone a medical.

He has since said;

“Monaco have the means to build a strong team. It might interest everyone."

Again, he has answered the questions he was asked and suggested that anybody may consider a move to the big money side.

Kinnear made his comments on Cabaye shortly after being announced as the new Director of Football at the club. He said;

"He will stay. We don't feel we have to sell our top stars. The only players we will move on are the ones that are coming up short. You can't have that at a massive football club like this.

We will have to move them on. We can't have mediocre players at Newcastle United. But we won't be selling our best players."
