Kinnear Confirms Gomis Complications After Aulas Interview

Newcastle United fans have been told that there will be an eight day delay on the completion of the signing of Bafetimbi Gomis, by the Lyon club president Jean-Michel Aulas.  After two weeks of will they won’t they, Newcastle appeared to have almost sealed the deal on the 27 year old, who allegedly went AWOL from Lyon last week.  

Now it would seem that despite a fee and personal terms having been agreed and Aulas claiming just two days ago that the deal would be completed within 48 hours, some “minor problems” have cropped up.

Aulas told the French press earlier today;

“With one year left on his contract he has to be sold because an extension was not an option for us or for him. And I did not mean to cause any harm to Gomis on a personal level. I merely needed to sell him.

We have accepted Newcastle’s conditions for the deal and Gomis has accepted theirs too.  It could still go haywire because there are minor issues which could cause problems.

Either way, the deal won’t be done for another eight days probably.

We invested €15m in Gomis when he was in a bad place at St Etienne. With one year left on his contract he has to be sold because an extension was not an option for us or him.

We decided to sell either Bafetimbi Gomis or Lisandro Lopez. I did not choose Gomis, the Sporting Directors did. I did not mean to cause any harm to Gomis on a personal level. I merely needed to sell him."

Joe Kinnear confirmed earlier today that the deal had been complicated by various add on fees. He said;

"At the moment I'm waiting for the nod - but the goalposts have moved on numerous occasions - to bring in a couple of strikers. The Gomis deal was agreed on numerous occasions but it's a very difficult situation because there's always extra add-ons, extra things, another problem.”
