Tavernier Returns To Tyneside For Surgery

Newcastle United defender James Tavernier has returned to Tyneside for surgery on a reoccurring foot problem. The 21 year old who was on loan to Shrewsbury Town managed to play two games before suffering with the injury which has kept him out of the side’s last two matches. 

Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner said yesterday of the injury;

“He has had a scan and there is the possibility that he has got a broken bone in his foot.

He has gone back up to Newcastle to liaise with their people. I understand he has had an injury like that before in the same sort of area,

It could be that it is the old injury that has shown up or it could be a fractured metatarsal.

If it is the old injury that has shown up, there is a good chance he will be fit before his loan finishes here.

If it's a fresh fracture then, obviously, his period with us is finished.”

Today he added;

"It's a previous injury which has reoccurred for James Tavernier.

It looks as though he's got to have surgery on it, so obviously he'll be out for some time with that one."

Tavernier, who was on a month long loan at the club is due to have minor surgery to pin his metatarsal.
