Player Profile: Andre Ayew - £7M bid made by Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk

Newcastle United are reported to have made a £7million bid for Marseille forward Andre Ayew. The Ghanaian was watched by Newcastle's Director of Football Joe Kinnear on Saturday night, with the club who have said the player is not for sale, apparently prepared to sell for around €10million.

Ayew, who plays in midfield for Marseille but prefers to play as a central striker, has a £15.5M buy-out clause in his contract which is significantly higher than the bid put in by Newcastle. It is understood that Marseille will not enforce this clause.

Ayew appears to be a consistent player, who scores but is also aggressive in play, having picked up 35 yellow cards in his career and one red, that said he is a player who is able to create and score.

Newcastle are not the only club interested in the 23 year old, as Everton are also understood to have had their scouts at the game and Liverpool, Napoli and Inter Milan have also all been linked. Newcastle will have to get a deal done swiftly so not to lose out once more.

I like the fact he currently plays midfield but prefers striker role.

It shows he can competently do both

Im sorry to say, but NO MORE AFRICAN PLAYERS !

It has nothing to do with rasicm or anything, but I simply can se the point in signing another one who will be gone in january because of the African Cup of Nations..

Im I the only one with that concern?

I'm kinda worried as its yet another goufran ! A midfield/winger who likes to play as striker , granted he's probably a lot better at striker than gouf but still why can't that dumb @#$%& kinnear just go out and get a proper center forward

Besides have we learned nothing about the French players ! When they don't get their way they go on strike , was bound to happen to us eventually . Karma and all that

Taylor, Sammy Ameobi, Williamson, Elliot, Dummett (eligible for England)

We have some youngsters out on loan. But no we do not have enough to field

There won't be an African Cup of Nations this season, but of course, there will be one next season.

Yes but out of our very big squad they are the only ones ( and r.taylor).

When do these rules come in?

The rules are already in place - minimum of 8 registered "Home grown in nation".
If you don't have enough players, you can "forefeit" a registration space.

Also; because of the way the "Homegrown" rule works, players signed from abroad who've been at the club since before their 18th birthday and over the age of 21 qualify as "Home-grown by club". If they've been in the country for 3 years, they still qualify as "home grown in nation".

As a result, Krul and Vuckic qualify as Home grown by Newcastle despite being brought in from elsewhere, and Bigirimana will still qualify as Homegrown in England despite having only been with the club for 1 season.
I honestly don't think we have too much to worry about regarding the Homegrown players rule.

Yes but i believe there's also further rules being introduced to strengthen the home grown rules

Nah we are fine on the home grown scene and tbh Ayew is a great player get him signed, if we are indeed trying to sign someone surely that is better than not signing someone, really twisting about buying people ? This is a positive move either way lets at least give the lad a chance to get signed.

Yes great if we sign him but I would prefer they get an out & out goalscorer to replace ba than get another versatile winger first , it's about priority's

He's scored a lot of goals from midfield, wonder how many he'd get as a striker?

Any player in is good!
