Deschamps Explains Cabaye Absence

Didier Deschamps has left Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye out of his International squad, meaning that he is not available for selection against Georgia on 6th September and Belarus later that week.  Deschamps indicated that the transfer fiasco surrounding the 27 year old was to blame.

Explaining his decison he said;

"The players are free to make any career choices, but that could have consequences on the national team.

We have to win. We'll have in front of us a Georgia team that has nothing to lose and will fight like the away match. We have to get ourselves in tournament mode and not think that we're superior and that we'll win.

There's no such thing as an easy international these days. There are three points to play for and they won't gift them to us. Georgia didn't give up until the end against Spain and almost equalised in the final minute."
