Blue Monday

Now before this begins to read like a diatribe against Sky, I should state here and now, that I am a fan of Sky.  A massive fan in fact. I love the fact that I can watch numerous games, from around Europe, hell they even give me the choice of matches on Championship league nights, and so I can watch Barcelona v Ac Milan as opposed to say Manchester United v a bunch of Romanian sheep herders.

My default channel, when allowed by wife and various ungrateful offspring is sky sports news.

Soccer Saturday is undoubtedly one of the best football programs ever, and Jeff Stelling, should not only be knighted, but perhaps be given the status of a minor deity.

But all this aside, there are one or two things I do dislike intensely, and Monday night football is one of these things.

If god had meant us to play football on a Monday, he would have made the weekend a day longer (actually I have a few other problems with god and unpaid overtime but that is perhaps beyond my current remit.)

There is something just wrong about a Monday, those of a certain age may remember a boomtown rats song that sort of sums up my feelings regarding Mondays quite well.

It may be all very well and good if your team wins, but unless you can guarantee that in advance I would rather wait until say midweek when I have got more of a hang on the fact that there could very well be a weekend in my upcoming future.

And all this so far supposes that you are watching it on television. Now assume for a moment you’re not, you in fact are mad enough to travel away on a Monday.

Worth it obviously if your side wins, perhaps there may even be a tad more swagger in your walk the next morning, all very nice.

But if you lose, then you have had to travel back some distance and now you have most of a working week in front of you. And on one memorable occasion a chance to explain to a boss, your miraculous recovery from a stomach ailment in time to travel 300 miles to be seen celebrating a goal.

While I am on the subject of Sky just two more small complaints.

First, does sky sports news not have any footage of teams scoring against teams other than Newcastle?

Second, if they insist on using Jamie Carragher as a pundit, can they please supply sub-titles, the rest of the country only understands on average about one word in four.
