Newcastle looked like they were conserving their energy for this match when they played Swansea.
Let's hope that was the case and the Toon lads come flying out the box today.

Decent effort so far. Not a lot going forward until the last two minutes and a few silly fouls in bad spots but pretty solid team effort so far.

its always the same we never play well its always the other team played badly and when we lose its never that we played poorly the other team played well.

Maybe they played like that because we made them play like that

How are people able to care what the media say on a day like this?

Because it's bloody aggravating when our team don't get the praise they deserve.
The praise would balance out all the demoralising **** they have to put up with.

It's the same for the team as it is for any one of us. A pat on the back works wonders. I'm amazed you can't see that.

Well it doesn't aggravate me - there's no room for aggravation with all the happiness after our wonderful, 2011-12-like start to the season.


I would also like people to ask themselves, are the media making a big fuss of how Man U played against us, or about their poor start to the season in general. There is a big difference.

Forget Manchester United.

We beat Spurs and Chelsea and the media jumped on how badly those two teams had played, not how well Newcastle have done.

It's always about how poor the other side were and the team do not get the recognised praise they deserve.

As long the league table recognises it, then that will do for me.

Oddly enough, I'm with Nick on this.

The fans can recognize the performances, and the table (to some extent) recognizes the performances.

If the media want to focus on the struggles of other clubs rather than the good results of ours, it suits me fine. They are more than welcome to the extra pressure of media scrutiny - especially if it's putting the pressure on the sides we're playing rather than ours.

to be fair MOTD did praise our performance and it wasn't only Shearer, MOTD 2 yesterday lunchtime did to but after reading out an tweet from a fan pleading with them to rather than just say how poor Man Utd were.

On the other hand i'd rather we just got on with what we are doing slightly under the radar and media scrutiny

I don't care if the media spin it that way tbh, suits us just fine, adds no pressure.

In any case I think the lads were always going to have a good season and it's got a lot to do with France qualifying for the WC next year, which ordinarily I wouldnt be bothered about but this season its been very important for us.

We are looking good, really raising our game for the high-profile matches, starting to develop a nice little habit of beating the big boys.
But now we need to start getting wins consistently against the teams which are more on our level, like Swansea and Southampton, once we can do that regularly we can start to be quietly confident about finally challenging at the top, which I believe should be the aim for a club of this size.

Above all we must keep hold of our best players and that means we have to start competing for those CL places.
Sounds ambitious, perhaps, but we will never be more than a selling club until we do.

It's time for the glory days to come back to SJP, but will they? under MA's stewardship, I doubt it!
