Cabaye Talks About Moving To Villa, Winning Ways & Goals

Newcastle United midfelder Yohan Cabaye has spoken about his move to Newcastle by telling The Chronicle that he thought he would be going to Aston Villa. He also said he is happy with Newcastle and the current team performances, especially the win at the weekend and his goal. He said;

“It was the summer after Lille won the double. I had much more contact with Aston Villa and Houllier.

It was my priority. Then my agent told me about Newcastle and I waited for Houllier to tell me he had finally stopped managing Villa due to health reasons and I joined Newcastle.”

He added;

"I have no regrets. I feel great, confident, especially compared to last season. It was the first time in my career I played relegation. This season we are well placed, we have taken points.

I feel very good, I want it to be a big season, to try to finish as high as possible while thinking about the World Cup next summer.”

He also touched on the pending transfer window but refused to be drawn into talking about it too much.

“I know that in January the rumours will start all over again.

I’d like to know who does not want to play for Paris Saint-Germain today?”

Cabaye who scored the winning goal against Manchester United at the weekend said of the performance;

“I don’t know if the shot was going in. The keeper came close to saving it, but I don’t care whether the deflection made a difference or not. I am still happy. I scored the goal, and that was the most important thing.

This goal ranks very highly with all the other ones I have scored. Just to have scored at Old Trafford is a fantastic feeling. I’m very happy to have done it.

I scored against Liverpool at Anfield, and it’s always fantastic to score at those kind of stadiums. It’s even better when the goal means you win the game.”
