Pardew Reflects On 3 Years At NUFC

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been at the club three years today and has been talking to nufc.co.uk about how much he has learnt as manager in the North East. Pardew, who managed at West Ham and Southampton before heading to Newcastle is the 2nd longest serving manager of the current Premier League managers behind Arsene Wenger. He told the club site;
“It seems quick when I look back today but there has been periods where it has been very difficult. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved here and I’m honoured to be the manager. It’s a fantastic club with the best supporters in the world.
I’ve tried to put in place a work ethic, a discipline and an attacking make-up of the team. Sometimes we get undone but we are trying to build each year. I know what this Club means to this city, particularly when you win, to go into work and have that pride in your team. It gives a real boost to your spirit.
It’s an area of the country that is a hard working region. The people here are so honest and hard-working and the team needs to reflect that. If it doesn’t the fans get upset and there were periods last season where we didn’t do that. They were right to be upset. It was my job to make sure we put that right this year and we have worked really, really hard. We are getting our rewards for it but there is still a big part of the season to go.
I’ve learned that you have to be resilient. As tough as that was at the other clubs I’ve managed – West Ham and Southampton in particular – this is harder. It’s a religious kind of support, which makes it very emotional and I’ve had to learn how to cope with that. As a manager I’ve had to embrace different cultures, different mentalities on how to play the game, and every player gives you a different set of problems. I’ve gained great experience from some great players here and continue to do so.
I can detach myself from the emotion of the game which comes with age as well. When you are younger you get wrapped up in it a little bit. Although I might be jumping up and down on the side-line I am very focussed on what is going on, how the game is going and what decisions I need to make. But the most important thing is that you have to have your finger on the pulse.
The Premier League is changing every year and you’ve got to be right at the cutting edge of it. I like to think we are and we have really improved with some fantastic stuff on the training ground, the fitness of the guys and the condition they are in. I’m really pleased with that. As a manager you want to take a few steps forward every year – it makes you a better manager and makes for a better team. Hopefully our fans can see where we are trying to take the team. I’ve loved every minute of the last three years and long may it continue.”

there that should keep them happy as they seem to be very quiet dare I say disappointed at the moment and that disappointment sums them up as fans as far as im concerned
theyd rather we got beat to prove themselves right as dare admit they might be wrong
I have been a Newcastle United supporter since I was a bairn. I don't attend matches. I live too far away.
Like me I'm sure there are many fans who pay for Sky Sports, ESPN and now BT to watch Newcastle play. Those channels contribute a lot to the Premier League and therefore to Newcastle United.
I have never asked for any manager to be sacked and like you I'm happy enough with Alan Pardew.

others who live elsewhere in the country or world also add to the support we have many of whom don't go to match or for others the match is a treat when possible
both groups attenders and non attenders share the same love and they add loads to our support and reputation by talking about us non stop wherever they are in the world
what I should of clarified is many of the internet whingers probably don't even watch them on tv and seem so blinkered they even want us to get beat to prove their point and must be secretly gutted at the moment, im sure some of them are fans of others clubs trying to wind us up
apologies to anyone who cant for whatever reason get to a match I was not meaning to infer that not going to a game doesn't mean you don't support the club or your opinion is valid,
I hope I've clarified that
it is of course far easier to whinge from behind a computer screen id love to see what these pardew merchants would shout at a match though !

The squad Graham Sourness had was plagued with injuries. He was sacked by email, which I thought was bloody disgraceful at the time.

And it's true that Sam wasn't given so much time, although I personally was pleased that he was sacked, because I never wanted him to manage Newcastle.
AP is by no means the best manager we've ever had, but he's doing an ok job. Better the devil you know.
In terms of international support, I can relate to that because although I'd love to be at every game, I live in South Africa so that's just impossible.
I have been to Newcastle once, but was unable to see a match at SJP (I think it was during an international break) although I did the stadium tour etc.
However I am coming back next year, tbc late January or early Feb, for business but I'm hoping to catch a game while I'm there.
Can anybody give me an idea of which home games I'd be able to easily acquire tickets for? Obviously, I have no illusions about getting one for the derby, although that would be amazing.
I've been a magpie for 18 years now, so a home match at SJP is on my bucket list :-)
