Newcastle United host Southampton this weekend on the back of five wins and a defeat from their last six games and currently top the Premier League Form Table. Southampton on the other hand are just one Premier League position behind Newcastle but have lost four drawn one and won just one of their last six games (including a defeat in the C1C).
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is without Yohan Cabaye (suspended) who has collected 5 yellow cards this season and serves a match ban, but there are no injury concerns and he has a fully fit squad (excluding Ryan Taylor) to choose from.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino however has an number of injury problems, including that of goal-keepers Artur Boruc (fractured hand) and Kelvin Davies (back). Third choice keeper Paulo Gazzaniga will be in goal.
Morgan Schneiderlin (pelvis) will face a late fitness test but Victor Wanyama (calf), Nathaniel Clyne (hamstring), Guly do Prado (knee) and Danny Fox (hamstring) all remain absent.
Ahead of the game, Pardew, who used to manage Southampton praised Saints striker Rickie Lambert. He said;
“I didn’t even become a professional until I was 26, so I am one of those people who always has hope for players because obviously, it came late to me.
Rickie has certainly surpassed my career with what he has done, and long may that continue.
He’s got real class and technical ability, and it was only his mobility and fitness, probably, that held him back. He managed to address those and at the minute, he looks in great shape.”
He also praised Newcastle midfielder Cheik Tiote, he added;
"He is playing very well, though. I was very reluctant to take the captaincy from him after he did so well with it. But he has proved to me irrespective of whether he wears the armband or not, he is brilliant."
