96 Minutes In Pictures: Newcastle Utd v Southampton FC

Newcastle United took on Mauricio Pochettino's Southampton this afternoon at St James Park in a game which saw a goal from either side. In the first half Newcastle had 66% of the possession and were awarded three corners in the first four minutes. Pardew's side had six attempts at goal (2 on target) to Southamptons two attempts and one on target, but it was Yoan Gouffran's strike which seperated the two sides at half time after he scored his fourth goal in his last four home games.

Pochettino made two changes at half time with James Ward Prowse and Danny Osvaldo being replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin and Adam Lallana.

Southampton made the better start in the second half having obviously been given a half time talking to, but whilst Newcastle had added another 3 shots (1 on target) in the first 15 minutes of the second half, Southampton hadn't had a shot at goal.

Shola Ameobi made way for Papiss Cisse as the club's number 9 came on with 30 minutes to go.

Jack Cork picked up the first yellow card of the game in the 63rd minute just before Jay Roderiquez equalised for Saints in the 64th minute.

Loic Remy had a perfect opportunity to score Newcastle's 2nd as Saints keeper Gazzaniga mismanaged the ball, but Remy, luckily for Gazzaniga, couldn't make the most of it.

Cheik Tiote gave cause for concern in the 74th minute when he went down with what looked like a hamstring problem, but appeared to just have a touch of cramp. Pardew had been about to take Debuchy off the pitch and replace him with Massadio Haidara, but put those plans on hold to see how Tiote carried on. Haidara replaced Debuchy in the 77th.

In the 87th minute whilst Southampton's keeper was receiving treatment, the referee Mike Jones hit the deck after Moussa Sissoko struck him (accidently) in the face. 6 minutes of injury time added as a result of these two receiving treatment.

Seconds later the two benches collided before Mike Jones waded in and sent Newcastle's goal keeping coach Andy Woodman to the stands.

The game ended 1-1, a fair result to a good game.
