Newcastle United travel to The Hawthorns for their first game of 2014. Alan Pardew’s side go into the game on the back of three wins, two defeats and a draw from their last six games. West Brom host on the back of three consecutive draws, following three consecutive defeats.
West Brom who are manager-less will have their team picked by caretaker manager Keith Downing who will have a big decision to make as to whether or not to select Nicolas Anelka after his “quenelle” goal celebration at the weekend. The gesture has caused controversy and is being investigated by both the FA and the club.
Shane Long (calf) and Chris Brunt (back) return but Victor Anichebe (groin) is a doubt.
Newcastle United are without any injury concerns and Pardew has a full squad to select from. He said ahead of the game;
"Hopefully, we can match the level of the game against Arsenal. If we do that, we’ll have a good chance of winning.”
Fact: Yohan Cabaye is on course for his third goal in three consecutive away games.
Fact: Newcastle have won three of their last four games against West Brom.
Fact: If he plays, Anelka will be looking for his 7th goal against Newcastle in the Premier League.

not the best first half, we've had a couple of chances and so have they, santon seems to be struggling today, he's not really trying going forward or defending
