Gutierrez Signs For Norwich City On Loan

Newcastle United have loaned midfielder Jonas Gutierrez out to Norwich City until the end of the season. Before the news was confirmed the 30 year old thanked fans over the weekend and wished his Newcastle team-mates well for the season.
Norwich City released the following statement from manager Chris Hughton;
"Jonas is somebody that will certainly bring experience - he has played close to 200 games for Newcastle, so he knows the Premier League very well.
He has been in England for five years, so there won't be that settling in period that you would have with some other players, and that is important, particularly in January when you need players that can go straight into the squad.
Jonas can play on either flank and in a central position, so he's a very welcome addition and we look forward to working with him."
Gutierrez said;
"It is an opportunity for me to get back in the game and to try and do my best for the team. Personally I want to do the right things on the pitch and win my place, and then for the team we want to finish as high as we can.
It is a tough league, all the games are difficult, but we have a good opportunity."

Bit off but never mind. I suppose its better to loan him in light of the fact we won't be buying more than 1 or 2.
That way if we have huge problems he can be either recalled or given a new deal at the end of the year.
Good luck to the lad.
On the other hand, it's fair to let him play elsewhere, especially in a World Cup year. It takes some strain off the wage bill, and within the next year or two he'd be surplus to requirements at Newcastle anyway.
He could still do a job for our first team, but I concede he would not consistently be in the first team (and not deserving of £60k+ per week for a fringe player).
So yes - it makes sense to let him go...doesn't mean I'm not sad to see him leave.
Interesting aside: He's made approximately 4 fewer appearances than Steven Taylor for the Newcastle first team squad in almost half as many years.
Jonas having played 4 fewer games than Taylor in half the time isn't suprising, Jonas has an excellent injury record and has gone whole seasons without getting injured whereas i cant remember Taylor having a season without a serious injury.
