Game In Pics! West Ham United v Newcastle United

West Ham set the pace of this afternoon's game by missing two opportunities to but the ball into the box within the first minute of the match, whilst Loic Remy had the first chance for Newcastle in the 7th minute of the game when the ball was deflected by West Ham’s Roger Johnson. Andre Marriner gave a free kick for what should have been a corner, but there was no way Adrian was going to get to it if not for Johnson being stood in the way.

The 14^th minute gave Jarvis the opportunity to cross the ball straight into the hands of Newcastle goal-keeper Tim Krul, seconds before Matt Taylor headed the ball wide.

Yohan Cabaye opened the scoring in the 16^th minute after a Yoan Gouffran assist… leading the commentators to reflect on the fact there was no surprise the goal came from a Frenchman (yawn).

Despite West Ham having much of the possession in the first 15 minutes, Newcastle went on to have several good opportunities immediately after scoring.

Sissoko had another great chance in the 22^nd with the ball going through Adrian causing it to lose power giving him time to retrieve it just short of the goal line.

25 minutes in West Ham had lost all confidence at the back and were making Newcastle look good.

Remy became Newcastle’s new No.5 for 15 minutes when he pulled on the nameless shirt in the 28^th after a head injury poured with blood ruining his original shirt.

The 33^rd minute saw Moussa Sissoko put a lovely ball into Loic Remy who chested it down and tapped it into the back of the net making it 2-0 to the visitors. 

Mike Williamson gave West Ham a helping hand in the 45 (+2) by putting the ball into the back of the net, a goal Carlton Cole claimed at the time. The third goal of the game was a disappointing end to a great 45 minutes for Newcastle United.

Pardew made his first substitution on the 60^th minute with Shola Ameobi replacing Vurnon Anita, as he looked to exploit West Ham’s poor defence. Sadly Shola's name was barely mentioned during the last 30 minutes and he was mostly absent.

The change was swiftly followed by Striker Andy Carroll entering the field and unlike Ameobi, he made an immediate impression when his first involvement in the game saw him collide with Yanga-Mbiwa injuring him in the process.

For West Ham Joe Cole replaced Matt Jarvis in the 72^nd minute and for Newcastle Paul Dummet replaced Davide Santon in the 74^th. Pardew then took off goal scorer Loic Remy and brought on Hatem Ben Arfa in the 77th minute.

A  clash between Moussa Sissoko and West Ham’s Rat meant that there were 5 minutes added time at the end of the 90 minutes. Which Newcastle took full advantage of when Yohan Cabaye took a free kick conceded by Andy Carroll in the 90 (+4) minute of the game and made it 3-1 to Newcastle United.
