A Drama? Harsh? Handbags? ... No Violent Conduct - Remy Ban

Alan Pardew called it "a drama", Hughton called it "incredibly harsh", the media called it "handbags" but the referee called it "violent conduct". As a result of an incident between Newcastle United striker Loic Remy and Norwich City midfielder Bradley Johnson in Tuesday nights game, both received straight red cards. Immediately after the game Pardew said he wouldn't be appealing the card, saying the ref probably had just enough to issue red. This was in complete contrast to Norwich City manager Chris Hughton who defended his player to the hilt.  

Either way both sides appealed and only Newcastle United have been punished. Bradley Johnson's card has been overturned by the FA but Loic Remy will serve a three game ban after his charge of Violent Conduct was upheld.

The FA Statement said;

“An Independent Regulatory Commission heard two claims of wrongful dismissal today both in relation to the Norwich City versus Newcastle United game on Tuesday [28 January 2014]. The claim involving Norwich’s Bradley Johnson was upheld meaning his three-match suspension is withdrawn. The claim involving Newcastle’s Loic Remy was dismissed therefore his three-match suspension remains with immediate effect. Both players had been dismissed for violent conduct.”
