Game In Pics: Chelsea FC v Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United face a long trip home after a miserable afternoon in London. Alan Pardew's side, hit with injuries and the suspension to Loic Remy, topped off a bad week at the club which had already seen the resignation of Joe Kinnear and reserve coach Willie Donachie who was suspended for an allegation of assault on a player, before they lost 3-0 to Chelsea.

Frank Lampard had an early free kick in the 3^rd minute of the game sending Krul lunging for the ball as it went wide of the goal. Newcastle took the break with a great ball into the box but were unable to do anything with it and lost possession.

Hatem ben Arfa had a chance in the 8^th minute after a good bit of work from Santon but the shot was saved by Cech – it was however a positive start from the Frenchman.

26^th minute and Chelsea had ramped up the pressure with a lot of possession and then a great chamce at goal, whilst Tim Krul was at this point already putting himself in contention for Man of the Match with several important saves.

Eden Hazard opened up the scoring in the 27^th minute of the game curling the ball to the far corner of Krul who had no chance. Great goal.

Sissoko has a chance in the 33^rd minute with Davide Luiz playing him onside, he failed to make the most of opportunity which should have been an equalising goal. The response from Chelsea was immediate with Eden Hazard netting his second fantastic goal of the game to double their lead. A lead Jose Mourinho has since said was not deserved (but of course was readily accepted).

Mathieu Debuchy was replaced by Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa with ten minutes to go in the first half. The defender had landed awkwardly after a challenge on Nemanja Matic earlier on in the half and it has since been confirmed he could miss the game against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend with a calf problem.

2-0 at half time.

Out for the 2^nd half and in the 53^rd minute Tim Krul was very nearly embarrassed when he slipped letting the ball go over his head and rolling just wide of the goal. He then required treatment for an ankle injury whilst Rob Elliot warmed up on the sidelines leading to questions as to whether it was an "embarrasment injury" rather than the real deal. He was strapped up by the medics and finished the game.

Mbiwa picked up Newcastle’s second card of the game in the 59^th minute after taking Hazard out just outside the box. The free kick was taken by Frank Lampard and saved by Krul.

Mbiwa should have been sent off a minute later after getting a hold of Chelsea Samuel Eto in the penalty box as Frank Lampard took the corner. Mbiwa gave Chelsea a penalty and Eden Hazard his hatrick making it 3-0.

Hatem ben Arfa was replaced by Dan Gosling right after the goal and Demba Ba replaced Chelsea’s Samuel Eto in the 70^th minute. In the 76^th Sammy Ameobi had a great chance to get a goal back but put the ball over the bar but chances are few and far between with this team and they were just not being taken.

From that point onwards it was pretty much Chelsea’s game and it finished 3-0. Sammy Ameobi showed he can get stuck in and whilst Man of the Match goes to Eden Hazard, for Newcastle Sammy would have got it.
