Ashley, 100 million and what it will mean for Newcastle.

Mike Ashley could be in line to pocket up to 140 million if his latest bonus scheme for Sports Direct is voted through (which will provide a well deserved boon for all those on zero hour contracts).
Already a billionaire of course, it’s not likely that another 100 million or so will vastly change his standard of living; I mean there are only so many pies in the world.
But what will it mean for Newcastle United?
Short answer, probably nothing!
Longer answer, look at the track record.
The long vaunted interest free loan to Newcastle, which lets remember he actually owns.
So in fact he has actually lent himself money, I often lend myself money and don’t charge myself interest for it. I simply don’t expect a parade for it. (Still though if one was planned in my honour, which frankly is long overdue, I wouldn’t necessarily complain.)
Also let’s look at how ‘interest free’ this loan actually is.
The subject of advertising has been raised may times, with the original standpoint being, ‘we are actively selling the space’. Followed quickly by ‘it’s reserved for sponsors’.
However the real truth came out not long ago, when it was stated that, no-one had met the losses of the interest on the loan that the advertising was paying for, so hardly ‘interest free’ then.
Now let’s move on to player acquisition, we, and I am as guilty of this as anyone, keep asking him to open his wallet.
The truth of the matter is however, Newcastle’s money is not Ashley’s personal bankroll, no matter how he appears to treat it, we have brought in a hell of a lot more in transfer fees, than has been invested, then add in a reported 120 million unspent that the premier league and sky have given us, and we should have a spending spree, sitting waiting in the bank.
So Mike good luck with your bonus, keep it, buy pies. But how about spending, some of the cash that must have accumulated by now on players?

Or how miserable Man U fans were in 2008-09 even though they won the league??? And Chelsea fans that same season even though they won the cup?
If Ashley does to the Toon what owners did to Portsmouh, Rangers, Bournemouth or others, then I'll complain about him - not while things are running as smoothly as they are.
