Despite reports that Newcastle will attempt to land Ajax playmaker Siem de Jong, later in the summer, striker reinforcements remain first priority.
Newcastle being Newcastle, categorically deny that they have a 60 million transfer pot, and if Ashley’s past track record is anything to go by, the actual sum will be far below that, but a couple of strikers remain a must.
With any deal for Remy Cabella seemingly in deadlock and long term target Bafetimbi Gomis, only currently being viewed as a backup option, the club are thought to be seeking the signatures of 23-year-old Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette and Hertha Berlin forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who is a German under-21 international.
Another target was thought to be Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony, but a 20 million price tag would appear to be way out of our current budget.
What is obvious though, Newcastle have to quickly replace the goals that left with Remy’s departure, with Shola no longer around to act as stand in options are thin on the ground.

We count what comes in, and without any consideration for anything else, that becomes the number available for transfer.
Wouldn’t it be better if we just thought “give Ashley half towards paying off the hundred million plus interest free loan, and we’re on our way to getting rid of him”?
But no. We seem to think that he was obliged to loan the cash and has no right to get it back.
I'm actually okay with having a net profit in transfers provided it is to the benefit of the club. Whether that's in staff (playing or otherwise), improved training facilities, investment in youth development...but there is no communication in how it's being used.
It's not being used to pay off the debt (see previous financial statements), and it isn't going into the club.
We don't know where it's being used. So we assume it's in Ashley's pocket.
But no, moan moan moan. I didn't even see much joy when we finished 5th. Oh well, I was absolutely delighted!!!
