I think Mike Ashley should continue doing the sterling job he has been doing as owner of the Toon.

Everyone blamed him when we got relegated but gave him no credit when we astonished the whole of England by finishing 5th.

Conclusion;
Anti-Ashley bias is rife.

i agree with not signing players on the back of having a good major tournament, Arsenal did it with Arshavin and he didn't really work out as they had hoped.

Pachuca are keen to cash in on Valencia but want at least 10million for him, we would be better sticking with players we've scouted and try and get them over the line or should that be wall

But come on we aren't even in the running anyway
We don't choose to compete with league 1 or championship clubs let alone premiership
I say choose to instead of can't compete as because that is what it is , although the crooked basturds in charge try their best to convince that's it's beyond choice

I've also been thinking about Man U's purchase of Karel Poborski after Euro 1996. I'm afraid the fact that you and I have both been thinking about the same one, and its being so far in the past, would indicate that it stands out as one of not many exceptions.

It's actually the norm not an exceptional case I simply stated that team and date because of it being the first time I seen for myself how money was changing the game
You could add cruyyf to that summer for Man U and also after the World Cup in japan they signed djemba-djemba (so bad they named him twice) and a Brazilian lad who was supposedly set to join us but opted for them instead at the last minute
There are countless cases of this happening at a lot of clubs since pay tv changed the finances of football clubs
International football doesn't work like club football as the players are not familiar with their team mates like at club level which can make average players look like world beaters and world class players look like Sunday league so scouting major tournaments is a pointless task for lazy clubs who have cash to gamble
This is also the reason why England are continually shite , I don't know if the managers are influenced by the fa or sponsors to always pick the big names but having the biggest name in each position doesn't make for the greatest team (Greece proved this by winning the euros with a largely unknown team)

On the other hand, intenational footall is full of team mates who've played together for a decade, like Gerrard and Lampard - this doesn't happen so often in club football - so that should make up for the lack of frequency with which they play together at international level.

I believe Gerrard and Lampard have played together for England for the last 13 years, they have also shown throughout that 13years that they can't play well together. so time doesn't always improve the way players play together

For international sides they only get a handful of training sessions together per year and maybe a month before tournaments

There are, naturally, plenty of other examples of players who have played together for a country for many years. Shearer and Sheringham never played for the same club, but developed a wonderful understanding over the years they played for England together.

In fact, in some ways, I'd say playing for many years together for England can develop a better understanding than playing for a season at a club. Partnerships can develop like wines.

There is also some evidence to suggest that Lampard and Gerrard have finally managed to develop a partnership...

Shearer/sheringham was a decent partnership but was a one off case sometimes players just gel instantly but is very rare
That partnership was nothing compared to the shearer/Ferdinand or shearer/Bellamy
It would have been good to see shearer/sheringham in their prime at newcastle as that partnership at club level could of had real potential !

Or the Beardsely/Cole one.

Or the Beardsley/Lineker one.

with Beardsleys level of footballing intelligence he could probably have strck up a great partnership with anyone

I played 5 a side with him once ( we won a competition) there was him, the goalie who's name escapes me, Carr I think and a couple of others from the youth side.

I was 14, failed to strike up a partnership with the brilliance that is me.

Obviously this was his fault entirely, nothing to do with my complete lack of talent.
