The Essex squad will travel to South Africa in late March/early April for a pre-season tour as part of their preparations for the 2003 season. Read on for the tour details and fixtures....

It's the first time ever that the Essex squad has choosen to travel abroad for pre-season, normally opting to stay here in Essex. However, most counties now opt for going abroad to get in some early practice and Essex have joined the bandwagon.
The squad will be based for two weeks in Western Province for an intense programme, which will be the following:
TOUR SCHEDULE:
Thursday 20th March: Leave England
An interesting schedule and one that will be excellent for Essex, the players and the preparations for the coming season.
We will keep you up-to-date with the results from the tour as they become available.

Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd March: First practice session in Cape Town
Monday 24th - Wednesday 26th March: Three-day match vs Western Province 'B' at Newlands, Cape Town
Thursday 27th March: One-day match vs Western Province Academy at Belville
Friday 28th March: Practice session
Saturday 29th March: Practice session
Sunday 30th March: Triangular Competition one-day match vs Western Province at Newlands
Monday 31st March:Triangular Competition one-day match vs Lancashire at Belville
Tuesday 1st April: Practice Session
Wednesday 2nd April: Triangular Competition Final (if Essex qualify)
Thursday 3rd April: Fly home
