Scored 75

Darren Robinson is continuing his excellent form of last season by top scoring with 75 in Essex's first innings of the first match on the South Africa tour. Despite Robbo's effort, Essex only made 191 all out on day two at the Newlands ground against Western Province 'B'.

After day 1 of the three-day tour match was washed out, it was somewhat surprising that Essex skipper Paul Grayson decided to bat when he won the toss.
Grayson himself (6) and Will Jefferson (0) fell early and Essex were soon three down when Aftab Habib was out for 6.
However, Robinson was joined by England keeper James Foster (who made 52) and they together rebuilt the innings with a big partnership for the 4th wicket.
But when they both were out, only Jon Dakin (10), James Middlebrook (17) and John Stephenson with 14 (who replaced Mark Pettini because he'd not fully recovered from his knee injury) were the only other batters to make double figures, as the Chelmsford side made just 191 all out in their 1st innings.
Essex are playing 12 men in this match, with only 11 batting (McGarry just bowling/fielding) and the home side raced along at a fair rate, despite Jon Dakin picking up excellent figures of 3-34 from 10 overs.
James Middlebrook was the only other man to take a wicket (1-55) as Western Province 'B' declared on 206-4 in their innings, to establish a lead of 15.
The declaration at the end of day 2 was so Essex could bat out day 3 (the final day) for some batting practice.
However, the latest is that Paul Grayson has already gone for 0 on day 3. Full day 3 details will appear here as they are known.
