Wellens: Improvement Needed at Both Ends

On loan midfielder Richie Wellens says Town need to improve both at the back and up-front if they are to fight their way up from bottom in the Npower League Championship.
Despite Wednesday's exit of former boss Paul Jewell, Town once again put in a very poor display that saw them lose 3-0 to a Sheffield Wednesday team who were just one place higher in the standings before todays match.
Speaking in relation to another poor result this afternoon at Portman Road, Wellens, on loan from Leicester City, told the official club website: “Defensively as a team we weren’t good enough and you’re always facing an uphill battle when you concede after 50 seconds or whatever it was.
“I thought we showed a bit of character after that to be fair but once they scored the second goal it seemed to deflate us a little bit. We weren’t good enough in either box today and that is something that we have to change.
“It’s been a difficult week but that’s no excuse and we need to start showing the fans that we have the passion and we need to start moving up the table, and fast.”
The result leaves the club four points adrift of 23rd placed Bristol City and five points away from safety after all of this afternoon's 3pm kick-off matches concluded.
