McCarthy Delighted with Winning Start

New Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has admitted that he was delighted with his side's first game against Birmingham CIty which ended in a 1-0 win to Town.

Town's first win in 13 games came thanks to on loan striker DJ Campbell's third goal of the season and with a clean sheet also recorded, Town boss McCarthy said that he could not ask for any more from his side.

Speaking to the Official Club Website, McCarthy said: "It was obviously great to start with a win, the first in however many games it is for the Club.

"It was a pretty even game but the save from our ‘keeper [Stephen Henderson] and the block from Luke Chambers probably earned the points for us. 

“It not always about winning games by sticking one in the top corner. I could not have asked for more from my players really. 

“I have given the players a pat on the back but I have also told them that if they had worked like that before, I would not be here in this job.” 

“To have 17,000 at Portman Road last week when the Club is bottom of the league really is fantastic. I’m quickly realising how much travelling they have to do so I’m pleased they got some reward today.”
