McCarthy: Youga Provides Balance

Town boss Mick McCarthy admits that the short term signing of full back Kelly Youga gives his side some much needed balance to the squad.

The former Charlton defender has signed on at Portman Road until January as McCarthy attempts to boost his defensive cover and whilst McCarthy admits that Youga will most likely not play a key part at the club, the signing was very much one that needed to be made.

Speaking to the local press in relation to Youga, McCarthy admitted: “I know Kelly from his days at Charlton and I thought he looked set for a really good career. Then he got an injury and it knocked him back for a bit.

"We’ve had nothing in terms of cover at left-back. I know Tommy can play there, but he’s a centre-back when all’s said and done. I just thought he could give us a bit of balance and an option – that’s not a loan – until the New Year at least.”
