Boss Full of Praise for Subs

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy was full of praise for his subs as they helped turned around being a goal down to secure a 2-1 win.

Celtic striker or Midfielder Daryl Murphy was fouled to win a penalty for Town which fellow loanee DJ Campbell converted from the spot, with fellow sub Michael Chopra securing all three points for Town in the final moments.

Speaking of the impact his replacements made, Town boss McCarthy said in the post match press conference: “It was an exceptional strike from Mark Davies for their goal and it wasn’t a good first half. It was pretty awful to be honest as a game and I was quite happy to get them in at the break.

"We made changes in the second-half and it was nice they came off. Andy Drury was knackered  and we put Daryl on and he won the penalty for us. 

"Daryl made an impact. All three substitutes did. Michael Chopra showed the instinct of a goalscorer and I’m pleased for him. He has been excellent since I have been here in the way he has gone about things. 

"He has played in the U21s, has travelled and been on the bench and his attitude has been excellent.  He is a proper player and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was a threat when he went on as well.  That is what they are there for though, to go on and make a difference.

“When we got level though, I wanted to go out and win the game and it was great to do that. I think that takes us five points clear of the bottom three but there’s a long, long way to go yet."
