Scotland Has Contract Paid Up

Ipswich Town have this morning confirmed that they have settled striker Jason Scotland's contract with the player leaving Portman Road with immediate effect.

It comes as no surprise that the former Swansea man is leaving Portman Road, having played in just one game since Mick McCarthy took over as manager in early November. With three strikers signed in recent weeks, Scotland was some way down the pecking order and with his contract out at the end of the season, both parties decided mutually that the player should move on.

Confirming the news to the Official Club Website, Town Chief Executive Simon Clegg wished the former Trinidad and Tobago international all the best: “I’d like to thank Jason for his services to Ipswich Town Football Club and wish him every success for the future."

Scotland, who turns 34 in just under a month, scored a total of 21 goals in 95 games for the club since joining in 2010 from Wigan and is understandably wanting to gain some first team football in the final years of his career and several clubs are reported to be interested in his services.

Town boss Mick McCarthy also passed on his best wishes: “Jason is a fantastic guy and has been great around the training ground but we are going younger and he’s been missing out. He understands that and wants to go out and play football at the twilight of his career. We wish him well.”
