Big Blues Signing

Burns

The Blues have made what could be their biggest signing of the summer ...

Quins scrum half Jordan Burns has signed a permanenet deal and comes with an excellent pedigree for a 21 year old.

He's a leading 7's player as well as a speedy unit who started on the wing and has managed 11.48 for the 100 metres.

He has made five senior games for Quins and scored four tries for England Under 18s in a game against  Saints Academy in 2012.

10.8 for 100 metres, chris bajak ran 11.3! This could be a huge advantage in championship rugby.

He'll be a great attacking threat and offer wing cover like Alex Page.

is 21 too young? I'd say not in our league it isn't, actually perfect grounding for a young player who wants to impress.

I'm not sure we should be getting overly excited by this signing. I've spoken to a few Quins fans and the player was nowhere near challenging for a first team spot. He is very much a work in progress. They did confirm he is effing rapid, though. So, at the very least, he should make a good impact sub.

So he was struggling to displace Danny Care and Karl Dickson? Most scrum halfs in the Premiership would so also!

I'm getting very frustrated by some of the negative postings on this forum recently!

This is a very good signing and TryBlues has made a valid point. We have a great deal of pace amongst our backs (some of the quickest in the division) and with this addition it makes for an exciting season ahead. Let's keep positive please and look forward to some entertaining ball in hand rugby.

He was nowhere near - a distant third who wasn't up to scratch in the few minutes he had in the first team. Allegedly, he still has a lot of work to do on his game management. Understandably if he's recently moved from wing.

Also, you'll note that I said not to get overly excited, nothing along the lines of he's rubbish, a poor player or bad signing.

Just because he has signed from a Prem club doesn't mean he is automatically a good Champ player. This is even more valid when you think what pride Quins place on having academy graduates in their senior squad - if he was anywhere near standard they would, IMO, have held into him or put him out on loan.

Finally, I'm not sure you should be calling others for negativity.

there's a big gap between us and the Premiership, better defence means less space. It's a different game at our level and anyone with a bit of nouse and pace is going to create space and open up defences. I'm excited by this signing as are others.

Nous is allegedly what he is missing.

Don't get me wrong I hope he is a huge hit but from what I hear we are getting a work that is very much in progress.

You can coach things into a player, but you can't coach sheer natural pace. Yes you can improve your speed to some extent. Although pace in our division can help you get out of trouble or make up for errors, which he no doubt will make as he develops.

Taylor is a more accomplished all round scrum half but if you want a game changer who can exploit small spaces in defence Burns could hopefully be him.

With Burns, Blanchet (from 7s), Tapley, Adamson and Perkins we'll have as Jonathan says one of the fastest set of backs which should mean an attacking with quick taps type of game.

Let's hope our coaches don't take a silk purse and make it a pigs ear - with Noz serving up a dogs breakfast on match day.

TryBlues, we also have that player from a Wasps. Plenty of pace, making selection a very interesting prospect for the coaches

Why? All we know about him is he comes from Quins and is quick.

I'm more excited about Blanchet, Dorrian, Flanagan and Alo.
