Who Do You Blame?

Last week we asked you who you thought was mostly to blame for the position we are in. Here are the results:

From the results there are two names that stick out. Both are former Chairmen of the club, Jim Brown and Bob Walker.

Although Jim Brown stepped down as Chairman about 20 months ago, people blame Brown for starting the rot which has sent us to the brink of bankruptcy.

We had a great future ahead of us when we came back into the league, but people predicted that it would all go pear shaped as soon Brown came back to the club. And they have been proved right.

The Bob Walker situation is a tricky one. He has had the clubs best interests at heart, but things have not gone the right way.

He was left with the legacy of the East stand which has taken a lot of time and money up. And for all the work he has put into Halifax Town, there have been no positive results. Even if he has had the best interests of the club at heart, people will most likely remember him as the man in charge when Halifax Town became the first team ever to be relegated out of the football league twice.

12% of people blame the board as a whole which is maybe more fair than blaming just Bob Walker. After all, in a board meeting at the beginning of last season, it was the board that wanted to budget on crowds of 3200. This went against the wished of Bob Walker, but the vote went against him. Which in turn meant we paid too much on wages. There was no way we would get crowds of 3200. It was a massive gamble that didn't work.

Paul Bracewell, the man who took us into our final season in the league is not far behind on 11%. Although the board had backed him to spend high on wages, he jumped ship no too long into the season. This was a serious lack of commitment and would surely have affected the team, but this was no excuse because it happened so early in the season.

The fans received 3% of the vote. We have some of the most loyal fans in the Country, but we aren't half miserable at home. Away the fans can make some good noise, but it takes a lot to get some sort of reaction out of the north stand. A bit of encouragement from the crowd might just give the players that little bit more.

Surprisingly last were the players. It was quite clear that under Alan Little they did not want to perform. As soon as Redfearn took over as caretaker manager, the performances picked up. But obviously it was too late. At a supporters club meeting just after Bracewell left, someone asked Kerrigan if he felt the players had let Bracewell down with inept performances. His answer was yes. Need I say anymore?
